Hi All,
Was going through the Tech Help sticky above and saw a couple of people had reported this where the water just flashes a solid colour every so often.Went through the whole thread but did not see a definitive answer as to what's causing it or a possible fix.
Just wondering if anyone had the same problem and managed to fix it ? It's more of an annoyance and illusion breaker than anything else.It happens in the stock game as well as with TMO 1.9 and OP Monsun, could it possibly be a glitch with the original install ?
Specs are : Athlon 64 6000+
4 gig OCZ DDR2
Nvidia GT295
250g sata hdd x2
Audigy 2
XP Home SP3

I'm not familiar with that Nvidia model...is it a laptop card? What you're seeing could be a graphical artifact of your video card or processor overheating or malfunctioning somehow.

No fix that I'm aware of.

I have not noticed this during the day, but at night you can see it real well. Every so often i get a white flash under the water, it only lasts a second kinda like lightning is striking underwater. Its not game breaking, but i do wonder what causes it. Its not the GFX Card overheating, Im using a BFG nVidia 8400GS 512mb with an extra dedicated cooling fan and its always cool to the touch.

having the same with an nvidia gt260 here,
did you try different settings in the nvidia control panel?

First off,on checking,it's a GTX260,where I got the 295 from,well let's just say I shouldn't fly by memory
Think there's something in the overheating idea, the cooling fins on the card do get kinda toasty.I took the side off the case and had a desk fan blowing in the side and only saw the glitch occur about twice. The recommended psu rating for the card was 600w minimum and I only have a 550w,thought I could get away with it but I think an upgrade of the psu and fitting extra case fans will be the next step.
I was trying various settings in the nvidia control panel as suggested in the tweaks thread and also tried turning all options off in the graphics setting menu and turning them on one at a time but no difference.
Thanks for all the replies,as I said it's a mild annoyance and on reading some of the problems others have had in running the game I should count myself lucky and it can't take anything away from that which is TMO 1.9 :yeah:
I see this also. I'm useing an ATI X1650pro card, but I don't think it's so much an overheat issue. My psu is well within the needs of the card. It looks to me like the graphics "refresh" themselves every now and then. I say this because I've seen this happen with a ship in view while running on the surface. When I get that water flash, I also notice the ship smoke disappear, and restart again. That's why I feel it's a refresh issue. Dosen't happen very often.

I have noticed that using some of the different versions of the real environment mod reduces the flashing to sometimes non-existant. Currently with TMO 1.9 I do not see the flashing. I run a Nvida 9800 card.

One way to check to see if you have the problem is to do the "single mission" that used to be aircrew rescue (or lifeguarding ... something like that). You start the mission inside a cove with one allied ship off to your left, a few hundred yards away, sailing on a heading of about 090. If you set your course so as to cross the ship's bow while it's still a safe distance away, you should see the flash.
If you're playing without mods, the flash should happen almost exactly when the ship's AOB is zero. By tweaking your graphics, the flash will come early or (most likely) late. But it's almost a sure bet you'll see the flash before you make it outside the cove.

Ever so often I'll get some weird fast water when the cam is on other ships. Usually control N will clear most screw up screen glitches. Just remember it will also reset the weather, but you must use it when the cam is on.

Turns out the cpu was running hot, took it out, cleaned it,reapplied the artic silver and managed to shave about 10C off the running temp.Game's much improved as a result, still have the odd flash happening in campaign but not near as much as before.
Tried that Lifeguard mission and yea got a flash every time, though once I thought i made it out of the cove cleanly but got flashed :damn:
Time to get back on patrol.
