Radar reports with 'non-functioning' RADAR

I'm on my second patrol (East China Sea) in the USS Shark (Porpoise) and I'm getting radar reports of aircraft. However, when I go to either radar station neither will work manually. What's up?

SD radar display isn't explictly shown by the game. It's automatically turned on when you surface and the radar set manned only by AI.

The two displays you see are for the surface radar and you don't have it yet.
The PPI scope is for bearing and the A scope is for range.
You get SJ, surface radar, in mid '42.

Like the others have said, the radar station won't start visably working until you get the Surface Radar upgrade.

Also, Nice Boat! I love the Porpoise Class and i am currently up to Mar 1943 with the USS Shark and so far at about 110,000 tons of Japanese Swimming Lessons. A great thing about the Porpoise Class is you can still listen to the Radio at Periscope Depth and its a great boat for raiding Harbors and other shallow waters. I'm planning to either Finish the War aboard the Uss Shark or end up with a desk job because i am not going to give up this boat.

She has taken good care of me so far, including a photo recon into Osaka harbor, we got the pictures but had to sink 4 destroyers to escape, That was a hairy one!

Gaming aside, i read about the USS Shark, very sad, so much mystery around her loss and to this day we only have a general idea of her final resting place.

We do this for fun, but those guys (And some of the Subsim Members!) did it for real and they have my respect and thanks for all they went through.
