Hello sailors!

I haven't played SH3 or 4 since SH4 was released. I played SH4 for only a few days because my computer is about 4-5 years old, and did not let me play it without problems.

But now I have gained intressed again to play, and decided to start play SH3 due to my ****ty computer.

But I have no knowledge of which mods and updates that are out there in the big ocean, and would like some help.

So which mods do you guys recommend me to use for ultimate pleasure?:)
Which do I need to get more fun out of the game?

In the good old days, I played in 100%realism except for external view. So i prefere mods that increase realism.

Thanks !!!!:salute:

Either use one of the super mods or go to the relevant mods section for which version of SH you intend playing.

Install SH3, patch to 1.4b first.

Now, first off, supermods.

GWX and WAC are great. Never tried NYGM, basically because its not a supermod concearned about eye-candy. GWX would be the middleground, while WAC is full of eye-candy. Also, WAC contain zillions of other single mods already built in, like pennants, exaust smoke, water streams, living harbours, open hatch, torpedo damage final, and more.

Then, to the minor mods. Its up to you to choose what you like/dislike.

You can check people's signatures, they usually contain mods they like and recommend.

SH3 Commander is a must, and it works both with GWX and WAC.

Any other questions, PM me.

Thank you so much for the help guys!

I begin with downloading GWX and WAC. They sound great!

I saw that there is a GWXgold 3.0 version that includes all updates from earlier version. But to download this you need to download several parts.
Then i found GWX3.0_torrent.torrent. Which, as you can see is a torrent:yeah:. But do I need to download the earlier GWX versions too, if I download the torrent, who isn't GWX gold?

I little bit confusing, i know:salute:

You load it over a clean install of SHIII (patched to 1.4 no mods). It comes with JSGM built in with a lot of mods you can activate.

If you are going to use SHIII Commander you will need the commander config files for GWX3

Thanks!

I think i skip SHIII Commander in the beginning. Looks like its a little bit too much details and stuff.

But thanks for all the help!

Bad idea, at least in my opinion. The apparent details in SH3 Commander are not what they seem. Sure, it lets you adjust a huge amount of parameters manually, but they are all explained, and sooner or later you'll find yourself asking "I don't like this part. How can I change it?" and everyone will say "SH3 Commander!"

It does most of its work behind the scenes - huge variety of crew names, merchants you sink get named in the patrol reports, along with their cargoes and crews. You can adjust your time in port between patrols, or have it automatically randomized. You can have a realistically short career, or not, as you choose. You can have new crew that are already experienced. You can have malfunctions occur at sea, or not, as you choose.

Overall it's the single most important tool you can have, easily as valuable as any mod.

I second whatever Steve said.

Yeah, what Steve said.

One more thing. If your going to run WAC and GWX at the same time, you also need to download MultiSH3 first. Otherwise you won't be able to have multiple installs of SH3.

In my opinion, SH3 Commander should be up and running BEFORE even any super mod, it's a vital piece of software. As said before, you ask how to change something you don't like and everyone will say Commander.

Secondly, regarding GWX Gold as I don't think your question was answered, you can download GWX3 Gold and install that without having to get older versions. GWX 3 Gold is standalone, nothing else needed. It even has JSGME included which will give you access to firstly, the GWX optional extras like open hatch, icons, extra campaigns, and also other mods made by the community. Personally, after a recent revamp and reorganisation I've now got, on top of basic GWX and Commander, 44 (!!) mods on my install. It's great, if not a little long to load, lol. I drink much coffee. Just check my sig for what I think are the most important ones (they wouldn't all fit...), and use the search function to go find em. They can be a little hard to track down through the forum downloads and the plethora of file hosting sites people use but we all enjoy the hunt here.. :salute:

Finally, just in case you don't realise, you won't be able to install WAC and GWX on the same install, they are not compatible so do a search for MultiSH3 so you can get the best of both worlds on seperate installs.

You can PM me anytime if you want any help as I'm here quite a lot, lurking, at periscope depth........

:arrgh!:

For any kind of decent crew management, it is a necessity - your men are gaining experience/renown, but vanilla SH3 only allows ONE promotion and ONE Qualification IF you have a very good patrol - yrch. SH3Cmdr not only allows you to rename your men (I like historical crews), but you can promote anyone who has earned his next rate - which on some runs may be as many as half your crew! Not to mention that my firm belief is EVERYONE better have a Qualification after 2 patrols at the latest, or they get booted!

The vanilla flavor crew sets are also blah - SH3Cmdr gives you the option to have a realistic set generated for you at start - and many, many other things that enhance the bloody blazes out of this simulation!

Bottom line - don't leave port without it!:yeah:

:yep:

Not to mention the fact that every crewman was awarded the U-Boat badge after two war patrols. Only Commander lets you do that in one drop.

I did my first patrol last night, and noticed that every nation and names on the map was green. And the merchant ships were black.

Thought it was due to any new mod that made it more realistic, cause you need to spot the ship with your eyes insted of just looking at the map to see if it are friend or foe.

But then in my patrol area I spotted two ships that was sailing with the Great Britain flag, and i decided to sink them.

And I did. But then i noticed on the map that the ships that I sank had green icons. WTF? I thought GB was my worst enemy.

And the logg said that I had sunk two Neutral Ships.

!?!?

Ok, first of all, you should always read the manual, as this is covered as well as many of the other things that crop up on the forums but hey, it's a well known fact that most men refuse to read manuals......

GWX starts the career in August 1939 one month before war starts to allow you to get to your patrol grid in time for hostilities as well as helping to clear a bug with loaduts and upgrades through forcing 'shakedown patrols'.

I'm sure people will chirp in with expansions on that but really, you should read the manual as it will answer any question you have or will have and it's a damned good read to boot.

Not trying to be unhelpful but just read the manual and over time when you see this question asked for the 100th time you'll understand.

Haha, I guess my actions pissed of the british a little bit more then.

Sorry. But i'm really bad at reading manuals. I mean any kind of manuals. I'm more of a self-learning guy.

But i guess i should read them then.

Thanks!:)

Historically even after the British, French and others declared war on Germany, the German u-boat commanders were ordered to observe the Prize Regulations meaning they could (in theory) sink ships without warning and without placing the ships' crew in safety only if the vessel was
1. armed or
2. observed to carry military equipment or
3. being escorted by a military vessel (e.g. in a convoy with escorts)
This order was in effect until early December, 1939.

So I guess you have just violated the Prize Regulations, disobeyed a direct order from OdK and also attacked a neutral vessel. Good luck at your court marshaling! :D
