Hi
I'm experiencing disappearing smoke and wake effects during game play. I have a 9800GT card with 512 meg memory, 2.5 GHz dual core processor and 2 gigs of RAM. Any thoughts? Not a game killer, but it reduces the immersion somewhat.
Thanks

Hi skipper,
i experienced some similar graphic problems with previous versions of the nvidia drivers. Not exactly the same issues you have now, but sometimes wrong coloured smoke and missing (or also wrong coloured) muzzle flashes of gunfire.
Since i'm using the latest nvidia drivers (vers. 191.07) now for more than a week, the problems are gone. Everything works fine now.
So which driver version is installed on your system? If it's an older version i would suggest to change them. Uninstall the nvidia drivers AND the PhysX drivers (they could be responsable for problems in wake animation). Make sure to delete the PhysX (Ageia) folder located in C:\program files.
After a reboot you could then install the new driver package, any new nvidia drivers include the latest PhysX drivers, so after installing you have all you need to play. Maybe it works...

hey midnight- I'm usung the 191.07 drivers- just did a fresh reinstall on them- this time specifically removing the physx drivers prior to reinstall. Unfortunately the same deal is still happening. I've contacted akella on this (through N3V- the Aus distributor) and I guess I'll wait and see. Especially troublesome is the disappearing/ flashing smoke screen. Hard to know if you're hidden when you see right through half the time.
Thanks for the help though...

Hi skipper,
i'm sorry that i couldn't help to solve your graphic problems. Sounds at first that they were similar to mine, but when you have already the latest drivers in use... :hmmm:
I hope the support could help you and / or there will appear an official patch in future time.
Cheers, midnite1977

Just as an FYI, I got a note back from the publisher saying to try and turn off "filtering" in the options menu... haven't tried, but will report back

ok- turning off filtering does nothing. With a 9800 GT, you'd think it would be enough...

Try turning off anti-aliasing in the Options menu.
I have the same trouble with the smoke and I also see strange effects on the sea surface, like accelerated mini waves or the water area around the boat tiling.
I have a GTX 285 with the 191.07 drivers and running all to the maximum.
I am forced to use DX9 because with DX10 the glaring from white surfaces diring day is way too much and it has this kind of "post-procesing" effects I do not like much.
I hope I can manage to "tunne" the graphics properly to get the best of this game
The Graphics are good for the most part, but the topedo impact spashes and smoke effects look crappy -and even pale before those in SH3!
I remember seeing cool looking 3d damage moddling in earlier PT previews, but I've yet to see it in game, anyone remember the awesome looking torpedo attack on VIIC Uboat where it broke it half? It was the E3 2003 trailer I think. Gun fights are spectacular, but torpedoing vessles is about as satistfying as farting in a spacesuit.
What happened to those cool effects?
Minor Graphics complaints aside; PT boats KOTS is pretty nice overal but due to lack of features I cant see myself still playing it 6 months from now.
I have no doubt that SHV will murder it in terms of both polish replay value.
A dynamic campaign would have done wonders for this title, its a real shame.
From what I am seeing after some testing the issue about the nice water particles effect on the boat wake and the smoke disapearing from view is related somehow to the AA being activated. If you run the game with the antialising turned off, you can see the smoke and the water effects nicely at the expense of not so crisppy and clean textures on the boat.
If you have the AA enebled if you go to external view and play with the zoom and angles, you will be able to see the smoke and the water effects if you zoom out a bit.
The effects are nice but you loose image quality if you place the AA off, so I hope they fix this.
