Hey fellas, I saw this series the other day and it is awesome. Below I have put the show listings for this series coming in December. Each show is one hour long and does a great job of telling the story of the U-boats. Not a lot of technical info, but a lot of first hand accounts. If this does not make you want to hit the seas, forget it!

This was on about 3-4 weekends ago and I could only watch a bit of it because I had company over. Found it on Netflix the next day and sat through the whole thing; I agree it is well worth watching and is probably the most well-done doc on the BoA I've seen so far. IIRC most historical scenes are handled via reenactment/dramatization as opposed to use of actual newsreel footage but there seem to be plenty of sources for that out there already, especially on many docu-dvds where the narration is so dry and dull that it almost puts you to sleep despite any virtues of the visual and informational aspects (had one do this to me just last evening, in fact). Not the case here at all, at least IMO.

What this does have is oodles and oodles of firsthand accounts of those times and events from parties on all sides - the Royal Navy, British intelligence, the U-Bootwaffe (including Rosing and Topp as well as other surviving officers and sailors), merchant mariners, even a civilian survivor of the Laconia incident. Absolutely worth watching if you haven't seen it and it's also available real cheap at amazon.com; current price is around $8.50 last time I checked. It's even at the top of my Wish List for the holidays, lol, and if someone in my family doesn't take seriously the "I must have this or I will DIE!!!" comment tag on the item then there will be NO living with me in 2010.

Lol, yeah, I *really* wanted to watch it when it was on that weekend - the "company" I had was a close friend I hadn't seen in a while who was getting ready to move out of state. We had a lot of catching up to do plus I was helping her update her resume and burn it to disk so she could take it with her... I couldn't very well expect her to sit there patiently while I watched a three hour special on the BoA.

That said, we did have it on for most of the first hour in the background and she watched a little of it with me. Being a close friend, she's very familiar with my tendency to get my geek on over a wide variety of personal obsessions. I have to say she thought it was really funny and even pretended to be fascinated when I glanced at the TV, yelled out "OMG it's ROSING!" and proceeded to look him up in some book about the 7th flotilla just to verify that it was who I thought it was and show her a picture of him from the '40s. Which is why she's such a good friend, lol.

Well they had episode one of what I think is the same show on about 30min ago, "Convoy:Battle for the Atlantic(wolfpack rising)" Intense to watch after playing GWX.

Interesting,not as in depth as I hoped but very good to watch nonetheless,should be interesting on the next one I want to hear what it was like having trashcans dropped on ones boat from the men that were there.

Watched ep 2 last night of Convoy: Battle for the Atlantic (seems different to the series referenced by the OP) - it's currently playing locally on the NatGeo channel (2030 Wed nights until the end of the year). Very good show - I like the CGI graphics and recreations.

I think the series may be a real eye opener to those whose exposure to U-boats has been limited only to Das Boot.

Got no clue - I've only seen it shown (here in the US) on the Military Channel. I believe it's a BBC production. Three one-hour episodes covering the full span of the BoA, with dramatizations plus interviews with survivors of all aspects of the conflict. Very good show IMO, lol, I actually just got the DVD for Christmas and here I am with it playing on the TV anyway.

Just that the series that was on Channel 4 has since been shown under a different name on some of the various Discovery channels. Think that was a longer series though.
