This is an excerpt from a message I sent to "Rockin Robbins."
I enclose it for fodder to chew over.......Doug
2 questions and there is no hurry for a reply.
1. read my email about the bearing overlay on the nav chart and measure its diameter. I do not believe your distance measures out to either 1500yds or 3000yds depending on which overlay you use. And from the things you have posted I believe you use the 3000yd one, AND IT WILL MEASURE 3750YDS ACROSS ITS DIAMETER. The problem is in the mods scaling of it before incorporating it into the program. It is liner as is the chart scale but was applied as a too large of an object in the beginning. iF THE MOD SCALES DOWN THE ORIGINAL OVERLAY AND REAPPLIES IT, IT WILL BE CORRECT.
YOU MUST REALIZE THIS has nothing in the world to do with monitor resolution. Everyones resolution is different as well as their monitors are different.
HOWEVER EVERYBODY MEASURING ALONG THE MAP SCALE AT THE TOP LEFT OF THE NAV MAP WITH THEIR DIVIDERS WILL ALL ACCURATELY MEASURE THAT SCALE REGARDLESS OF THE ZOOM RANGE. IT WILL ALWAYS BE RIGHT ON PERFECT...............BUT WHEN THEY MEASURE ACROSS THE BEARING OVERLAY THERE MEASUREMENT WILL BE 3750YDS ON ANY MONITOR AT ANY RESOLUTION.
IF A NORTH TO SOUTH MEASUREMENT IS NOT THE SAME AS AN EAST TO WEST MEASUREMENT THEN ONLY THAT PERSON HAS A RESOLUTION AND IMPROPER MONITER SETUP, IN THAT CASE IT WILL BE TO WIDE OR TO NARROW TOP TO BOTTOM OR SIDE TO SIDE. IF ONE MEASURES MORE THAN 3750 YARDS IN ONE DIRECTION HE WILL MEASURE LESS IN ANOTHER.
EVERYBODY CAN CHECK FOR MONITOR RESOLUTIONS BY MEASURING THE BEARING OVERLAY AND KNOW RIGHT NOW IF THEY HAVE A PROBLEM.
IF THEY HAVE A PROBLEM THE MEASUREMENT ALONG THE CHART SCALE WILL ALWAYS MEASURE ACCURATELY, BECAUSE AS THE CHART SCALE GROWS OR SHRINKS, THE LINE THEY DREW WILL DO THE SAME, AND ALWAYS BE RIGHT ON................................HOWEVER AN OVERSIZED BEARING OVERLAY WILL ALWAYS BE OVERSIZED UNTIL IT IS REPLACED WITH A SMALLER ONE..........
