"Through the eyes of the captain":
Isn't that what we have in SH3?

Is moving this First Person around going to be so complex as to hamper my ability to command the boat efficiantly?
(This is what's got me worried).

This is exactly what we have in SH3/SH4...
... but :
* to use periscope you must be near it and use it (no functional keys)
* walking at whole sub (use toilet too?)
* talking with crew face-to-face
* see crew on job (engines, torpedo rooms)
* maybe see submarine damages with flooding

The only thing I hope is that orders can be relayed either over voice powered phones, or through runners when the you as commander are in other parts of the boat than the command room.

Being able to instantaneously go from the bow torpedo room to the control room is unrealistic. If they have a set up similar to B-17 the mighty 8th, but in first person, I think that would really be great.

the devs have already said you will have the same first person walking ability to go through the entire ship at will but you will need to return to your station to do your job.

the only grey area is the question of can you give orders "while" your on your way to the command room. personally i think they will let you give basic orders like dive or engine speed but i would think thats all you need anyway

I wonder what that text box is for on the lower right?

Hmmm. Looks very interesting. And extremely promising.

the devs did say you would be able to ask the crew questions :hmmm:

And no hot keys for soup inquiry.

You will have to walk to the galley in first person. :yeah:

its not a film its a game

If I remember correctly, during the production of SH3 UBI shown short films directly from the game...

Perhaps they are afraid that the fans will show some bugs and they will have to improve them even before the release date...

I guess it has the same functionality as the text box in SH3 and SH4.

I think you're reading way too much into a half finished build of the game. I would bet the GUI wasn't even finished there.

My hope is that it will be a 'semi-stablilized view', like an FPS. That is, your view will remain at roughly the same height. In the current versions you wander up and down anytime you try to 'walk' anywhere. It would be nice if the view actually replicated walking.

If the devs said 1st person view, it will be, don't worry. That view in SHIII is not true 1st person. It's more like a cheat view.

According to the SH5 trailer there was a couple shots of 3rd person.
One when looking in mirror and another when at periscope telling Chief to take her down deeper during an attack.

Pardom me if this has been talked about before but all I've read is 1st person view.

as i understand it you will "see", "move", and "interact" around the boat as in a first person shooter game yet be able to see things in 3rd person too but interactions will be in first person

First person huh . Does that mean that in SH5 i should be able to pick up objects and use them like rulers etc .

i believe the quote was something like "you will be able to travel throughout the entire sub in fps style and interact with the crew and even ask them questions"

so IMO i can see no reason why they couldnt allow you to pick things up too just like fps games let you do

where did you get this one ?!

Snestorm

Hmmm. I must have not asked my question very well. It won't be the first, or last, time.

I was worried how complex it would be to move this first person to where I want to go.
F.eks., If I'm in the control room, and would like (have to) go to the bridge, can I just press F4 and watch myself go up through the conning tower OR, is it going to take 11.000 keystrokes and a manual to get there?

Oh! In spite of not asking my question very well I've learned quite a-bit from the responses.
Thanks guys.

I sincerely hope it's kinda like "B17 II - The mighty eight" damn slow to switch positions but real fun seeing the radioman walking to a gun to help fight of the "bandits" :D
