I was getting frustrated that the game would not save my key assignments, and did a little digging and found a way of doing it (if anyone is interested).
You simply edit scripts/common/DefaultControls.script and add your preferred keys in there.
You have to load them each time you start the game though by going into the key settings menu and clicking on "default".
Now if I can just figure out how to change the mouse external view x/y axis to NOT be backward and upside down I will be happy :D.
EDIT: Ooops, that should have been t34! I frequently get things backward!
