Diddy one but still enough to ruin someones day in the wrong place if it didn't manage to completely burn up.

Meh, these types of asteroids fly closely a few times per year, IIRC.

But hey - if it had actually hit, it would have been Bush's fault!

What spin? If he didn't waste so much money there would be an anti-asteroid department ready to launch countermeasures at them.

PLUS he installed a giant ASTEROID MAGNET in Boston so he could start an inter-galactic war in China.

Michael Moore said it so it must be true!

The asteroid near miss is probably just part of the viral advertising campaign for Hollywood's latest piece of space junk....

Nah. For a good lie to work it has to be plausable. :DL

Like this:

"Bush's tax cuts kept Congress from fully funding the Asteroid Defense Initiative.

Can we send Bruce Willis up with a nuclear weapon an explode it. It may not damage the asteroid, but it will get rid of Bruce Willis!:DL

"Size matters not..." to quote a Jedi Master, Its the mass thats the killer. And as mass increases with velocity, you got to really worry about ones traveling ultra fast.

Its called Robisons 1st law...

So if a few grams of stray Neutronum smack in to Earth at .001c good bye.

Also the composition of the asteroid.

Some are just like a big foamy brick, kind of like lava rock. Not much substance and kind of light.

Others are quite dense indeed like solid nickle or iron. ;)
