Might as well retire, there's no way to top this. Found myself off the coast of the Philippines on October 20, 1944. Went and read some history when I almost got mowed over by a 'friendly' carrier task force. When I realized what was going on, I moved south to the Suringao strait. I hung out a bit south of where the PT boats originally attacked.
Sure enough, right on schedule, the Japanese southern force cam barreling through. Using my best RR-inspired O'Kane attack, I fired all 6 forward tubes at a passing Fuso. My guesstimate was he was doing 25 knots. I hit with 5, one a dud, the other four took him out. I tried maneuvering for stern tubes, but had 4 destroyers overhead right away. I figured my part of the battle was over, and limped away. They finally gave up.
At dawn I surfaced for some air, and discovered that 2 destroyers were sitting still in the water, with a couple more radar returns behind them. Dove and snuck below the destroyers, came back up.
Holy cow, it's the other Fuso! sitting dead still, broadside, smoking heavily. 4 torps put him down, and I'm getting cocky. More smoke on the horizon proved to be the Mogami. It took 3 or 4 more, but then I got a surprise. The destroyers weren't hurt, they had all apparently been sleeping. They woke up and came after me. I dodged north and found 2 Takao heavy cruisers leaning on their sides. My last 5 torps took them down, but now I had 2 destroyers with nothing to lose over me.
Another sneak, and one by one they disappeared! Cheated with the external cam and saw a glorious PBY flying away after bombing my attackers. Gonna have to buy those guys a beer when I get back.
And that's all that's left. Gotta make the trip home. Pic when my hosting company finishes their downtime.
