TMO 1.7 100 realism......USS Drum 6th patrol March 1943 out of Brisbane.

Patroling the Palau-Wewak shipping lanes 200 miles of so off New Guinea coast.Deactivated magnetic exploders due to repeat prematures on last patrol. After a week in area with one small ship down(had to use deck gun since a ship worth one torpedo , expended four, 3 ran deep and one was a dud) Finally two nights after sinking, radar contact, convoy.Moved in a 2100 since calm seas with pitch black night.6 ship convoy two large Nippon Maru tankers, one large Hakusika Maru freighter and 3 smallers merchants.Plan to shoot the large tanker with 6 bow tubes , then set up for quick stern shot at the large merchant.Close in at 3 knots to 3000 yards from outside colum(3600 from Nippon Maru in second colum) fired all six, ahead 2/3 left full rudder...stern tubes ready, fired all four , rudde amidships and ahead standard to get away before spotted.

First torpedo hit Nippon Maru and caused large explosion, next 3 were duds, two more hits, caused a huge fireball.Went ahead flank while watching from aft area of bridge.Soon had report of four dud's in a row, all hit the large merchant as aimed, but four dud's:damn: Soon had credit for a 10,000 ton Nippon Maru tanker in log.Escorts never had a clue where I was.

I am not prone to high blood pressure but mine went up a bit after this one, least I got the tanker. Now time for end around and dawn periscope attack:yeah:

I would not give the Stern Torpedo crews any Ice cream for that one :nope:

Good luck on the dawn attack

Wow! Final proof that Ducimus IS evil. I went out in late 1944 with an expensive load of Mark 16s. Had about 12 duds and slinked back to port with my tail between my legs and a goose egg for a cruise score! I traded out what I had left for Mark 23s and rerolled the cruise. It's the only time I've resupplied instead of ending the cruise on my return to port.

So just when you think you've got a handle on TMO, TMO REALLY has a handle on you!

lol i love the scopes in TMO, they are different than one another and the weathered look adds realism, stock scopes were too clean.

I have dealt with duds before but this was such a perfect night surface attack, juicy targets, the flanks wide open since escorts were forward and in rear of convoy, very dark night, so could move at little faster when needed to bring the stern around for second shot, just perfect. Then nailed the tanker but did have the duds, then four duds on the big merchant. The setup was one of those perfect ones like i've red about in the books by O Kane and Fluckey, ah well lol

About to load it back up and see how the dawn scope attack will go.Calm seas so no doubt will get a nice depth charging afterwards:down:
