Something that always annoyed me were the incapable sonar/radar-guys:

"Hey sonar-dude, follow that contact at bearing 123°"
"following contact, Warship, bearing 2-5-7, constant speed"
:hmmm:
"No the one on the other side"
"Sorry Sir, the guy on this side is closer so...you know"
:shifty:
"I know..but it is kind of urgent that we track the other one right now...please"
"hmmmmm......."
:damn:

"RAADAAR-Depth!!! All right, radar-guy. You, you're my man...follow that other guy on starboard!"
"I won't follow nobody. You, Sir, have to wait until I get to that bearing!"
:stare:
"That is too slow...come on follow him."
"NO...If anything I stop rotating that antenna."
:damn::damn::damn:
:nope:

By the way, me thinks it's time to update sounds. Okay, that would make them a LOT heavier... But hearing "bearing nine-four" instead of "bearing ninety four" always annoyed me to a high degree. http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a75/Panzer_Kamerad/smileys/flabbergasted.png

im not military so i dont know but i think they really did use singler digit responses to be certain no mistakes were made, im sure some of our ex navy guys will let us know how it was in RL

Ah !
I see, that looks probable.
Thanks for your answer. :)

it does sound stupid the way the tones are up and down all over, i hope they at least make them all evenly toned so they sound better. the same guy answering you with 3 different voices and 3 different tones is :damn:

they got a little too cute here and there was no need to simulate multiple voices for the numbers because it didnt work well but if desired a mod could do this for you by replacing them

All bearings are given one digit at a time in a three digit format, i.e. zero-one-four for 014. Giving all bearings in relative bearing drove me nuts as I was trained to give bearings in true only. Come to find out that sometime between then and my time they changed it. So giving relative bearing is period accurate as well.

i hope the devs will read this. perhaps, they can give us an information about the AI of the crew men? will there be any other commands like "follow contact XY" or "write down contac XY on map"???

And you're one of the "lucky" ones. My guys can't seem to manage any of that stuff.
If I don't hang out with the hydrophone guy, he starts giving me bearings that are WAY off. Here we're talking about a full green bar, RM1, Iron Crosses 2. and 1.

I suggest that sonar-guy and radar-dude have at least the following modes:

1. Normal sweep
2. following contact (picked by hydrophone)
3. follow closest or highest threat Warship (e.g. follow the warship that is making an attack run. If several are attacking follow closest one then switch to next one after it passed over the sub)
4. follow last periscope contact

This would would be all the sonar/radar modes I need. Oh and also: Since radar can give me an exact range, it should be reported to!

The lack of info the sonar-dude can tell you is a big problem I thinks when one wants to play realistic..
Would be nice if he could keep track of the [specified by captain number] of closest contacts me thinks.. Would solve alot of the issue.

i hope so too, "track this ship and not that one" should be up to the capt AND when a DD is barreling in on you he should perhaps MENTION IT before you here the hull scraping your tower lol. so pick a target AND keep me aware of any incomming threats is what im hoping for from the sonar guy.

That is all that is needed

Also IMHO I think it is not too much to ask for.
