First patrol in my Salmon class boat U.S.S. Salmon has me leaving Manila for the shores of Japanese occupied Vietnam. After a 48 hour cruise to my patrol area I spot a Destroyer and a cruiser heading right at me. I put my boat below and off angle the inbound targets just enough to put two Mk14's right into the cruiser. Scratch one battlewagon!

Then the next morning I sail into a task force sailing south right into me. Again I set up for the attack and put three fish into the side of a 29k Battleship before wheeling my boat around and putting two into a heavy cruiser! Firing off my last rear Mk14 at the now dead in water Battleship.

Tick tick tick as seconds seemed like eternity

"Torpedo missed sir" :damn:

The fight was over quick as I went deep and awaited the creeking noise of imploding vessels sailing down to hell.

I was not long in waiting as the cruiser went under tail first but the battleship remained on the surface with her stern well under and a thirty degree list to starboard.

A quick check and I realize I am out of Torps!:nope:

With no choice I slip away and return to Manila leaving 29k hanging in the balance.:stare:

You probably could have just hung around a little and she would have gone down eventually.

Your description made it sound as if it was fatal damage.

Agreed.. I would have played possum on the bottom for a few hours and let time take its course... but regardless.. sounds like some nice shooting and a great patrol

yea, he most likely would have went down. However, I remember a running battle with a convoy back when I played stock version of the game.First time ever I was able to attack, sink one, evade, surfaced, end around, attack again.Sank 5 of 6 merchants, two torpedos left. One small freighter, two DD's escorting.

Got into position, fired final two fish, hit with first, second was a dud.The small freighter went dead in water, surely he would sink with the huge hole in the side.Waited for hours and hours, came up and looked, escorts sitting there guarding him, hes not going anywhere. Was dead in water but wouldnt sink, out of torpedos, escorts wouldnt go anywhere.I was low on O2 and battery, had to leave scene.Came back, nothing there. It hurt, because wouldve been first time(back then, done it since in TMO) I took out an entire convoy. Can only imagine how much it hurt to leave a BB floating there.:damn:

Well since the entire Task Force just started circling the battleship and would not move on (Trust me I played possum for 12 hours then headed 12 miles out and surfaced and still watched him for another 10 hours with the other cruisers and battleship just circling) I had to let go......It wasn't easy!:nope:

Man that IS painfull... to sit and wait almost a whole day in game for that bugger to slip beneath the surface and to be denied. I really feel for you :damn:
