Probably. I can't see why they would eleminate anything there was in the previous games.

sometimes topics dont get a lot of responses and in this case i think most people just assumed it was a given to have the same or simular radio functions in the game so they didnt see the need to discuss it

ps - there were over 120 people who read your thread so it had interest even if no posts were made

I usually don't post if I don't have at least a hint of an answer. Sometimes I'll post just to say "I don't know", but, while it ocassionally gets a laugh, it does get old.

So, I don't know.:sunny:

SH3 had no radio support...

SH4 had some radio support...

SH5...

can you follow my logic?

SH3 had limited radio support. I have indeed had airstrikes happen after radioing in a convoy. Of course that was in my Med career.

I think that was just a coincidence.

Is there really a trigger in SH3 for reporting? Anybody? Jim? Lehmann?

Nope, it's in there. Check out Airstrike.cfg in your SH3\data\cfg folder.

lol...

I would, if I still has sh3 installed (I know, heresy).

But I trust your word!

I made a deep test time ago, my post is buried somewhere in the SH3 forum.. anyway, air support exists and you need at least 3 ships in sight, good weather and be within 700-800 km from the closer Axis airport. If all these conditions are respected, you can read your sent message at radio station (M) and you'll get an answer within 1 hour from BdU about the received message.

Of course we'd like a much more radio interaction.. for example the possibility to have assistance (a tug?) if you have your engines or rudders destroyed.. or you are without fuel for a large leaking after deepth charges attack..

let's hope!

Nope, it's in there. Check out Airstrike.cfg in your SH3\data\cfg folder.

here it is:

[AirStrikeSettings]
; AirStrike Creation Parameters
; Airstrike Session:
; 1. Compute airbases in range according to their aircraft maximum ranges
; 2. Compute air coverage factors on allies/axis/neutral on the target zone
; 3. Compute airstrike probability from each base
; 3.1 check number of aircraft that can strike at that range and conditions, and compute a coverage factor based on the range of each aircraft type
; and detection area around submarine ( 10 km radius )
; 3.2 multiply coverage factor for the target area with :
; - current airstrike probability againt that side
; - nigft factor ( if necessary )
; - airbase competence
; - close to airbase factor
; 3.3 check probability for airstrike
; 3.4 add more aircraft probabilistically for a large target

Agreed + it is a realistic historical option for skippers. Why not in the game?

I'm unaware of it ever happening in real life.

I don't know. I seem to recall reading many instances where U-Boats short of fuel for getting home got their tanks topped off by an out-going boat. Not just from the dedicated U-tankers which couldn't be everywhere. However, dispatching an oceanic tug for the Germans would be somewhat risky as they didn't control the airspace much beyond the shoreline. Odds are pretty good that the tug and the towed would be bounced by aircraft.

Exactly. I have heard how fuel and torpedoes were transferred between incoming/outgoing boats, but as far as having a "Kriegsmarine Triple A" service, I don't think that happened.

i agree

a good movie based on real life DAS BOOT

might give some u boot secrets away if you you know how to look for them

eg: survivors not being rescued when they finish of a tanker scene

But not only was that particular scene not based on real life, it wasn't even in the book.

The scene from the book that they left out of the movie was much more grim.

I'm in the middle of the book now and I'm liking it a lot more than the movie. Of course there's plenty of the familiar scenes in it, and Pilgrim gets a lot more dirty with his comments about "subject number one" (the glass eye story had me laughing out loud).

I'm in the middle of the Storm chapter and after the first depth charging. Haven't quite got to the tanker attack yet.

I won't give anything away (of course I could also be misremembering), but there is a nighttime attack on a convoy, with some interesting differences.

But the big scene is almost at the end of the book, and it's a corker. You'll know it when you get there.:yep:
