need a little advice / help please.

hey guys, im playing sh4 campaign and im on my 3rd mission so far. the problem is i have to patrol of honshu island. So off i went arrived at the specified location and began my patrol. Here is the problem, i have been here for over 9 days now and still it says ive not completed my patrol. My question is, how long do i have to spend in a patrol area? i mean this is kinda getting boring now, im down to 4 torps and not a ship in sight. Ive also tried looking for shipping to the east and west of my patrol area and still no joy. Any ideas folks? i just cant see the fun in spending 9 days in a small area of a big ocean doing nothing.

Well the worst that can happen is jou just dont get credit for completing a mission. But in comparison with what you earn for sinking stuff it's no great loss. Someone will be along shoirtly with the details, but I'd say if you're doing nothing for the war effort its your patriotic duty to go off and find some tonnage.

Agreed. Normally with RSRD or TMO or RFB your mission won't be fruitless and the mission directions will give you a radius you must stay within from the patrol center point and the amount of time you must remain there. Rarely, you will get a "sink tonnage" instruction. In that case, you can leave your patrol area to do that and still get credit for completing the mission!

With the stock game you may be just stuck with abandoning this mission. But sinking ships is the path to forgiveness. Don't come back empty and it won't hurt your career.

So go promote the ecology by creating some fresh, new fish habitat!:D

Thanks for the replys guys, i will hang around for a few more days and if nothing happens i will go ship hunting. One more question if i may, a damn plane has just dropped D/c near my boat injuring ALL the watch crew, whats the situation with medics? im still not sure on this. before i started my mission i tried to see if i could recruit a medic but there doesnt seem to be any to recruit. is there any way i can promote one of my crew to be a medic?

In stock a Corpsman is a special crew ability that gets earned automatically if conditions are met, at promotion. So the odds of recruiting one in port are nil. Just took a look at the crew files while typing this and found out the following. The crew member must be at least a CPO and they have a 15% of gaining a special skill. Now mind you there's about 21ish special abilities. I wouldn't count on a medic anytime soon. :-?
