The game looks pretty bad with widescreen resolutions so you might want to try to keep the aspect the same and just get that as high as possible. I can't seem to get 1400x1050 to work though:x

Use SH3 Commander.

Does SH3commander 3.2 have a save campaign option?? You know, to save during or after a patrol?

You actually can save during a patrol. (just don't save if you are submerged, or within around 50 miles of another ship)

Just hit ESC, it will bring up options on the left side of the screen such as SAVE, or SAVE AND EXIT.

Just click on one of those (just hit SAVE if you want to keep playing, then hit CONTINUE)...or click SAVE and EXIT if you are done playing for the moment.

It will then bring up a pop up box where you can name the file that you are saving to (can be anything, I use numeric to keep track better during a patrol....ie. DJ1, DJ2, DJ3 etc.)

Once you have saved your patrol, go ahead and exit the game if you want. The next time you start the game, go to SAVED CAREER and pick the file that you want to start.

You will then continue your career where you saved. If you want to go back further, simply pick that file..but don't forget you will lose any saves after the one you pick. (so for example you decide to pick SAVE1 when you were all the way up to SAVE3, you will lose SAVE2 and SAVE3. I think that makes sense?

Anyway, hope that all helps!

That makes sense... I did save my game as "EH95" then I docked at lorient after my 1st patrol..... Once I got to the "command room" with all the features like options, log, missions and stuff there was no save option after I finished my 1st patrol?!? So i went to the main menu and cliked load saved career and it was just back to "EH95" save and I spent an hour getting back to lorient AGAIN and when i docked and got out of my boat (to get out of boat hit esc and back to "command room"??).. and here I was again not finding how to save game after completing patrol #1.????????:hmmm: or load after completing patrol #1?!?!

OFFICIAL FROM THE USER GUIDE:
Career Saving
For each career patrol, there will be two auto-saves, one before leaving in patrol
and one after returning from patrol.
You can also save during patrols. All these saves will be available for a specific
career profile.
Starting a new career with the same profile will cause you to lose any previous
saves under that profile.
Career Loading
To load career saves, you must select a previously created career profile. When
selecting a save, a panel will display relevant career details. Because saves are
stored in chronological order, loading an early save will delete all the following
saves of that career

Oh, I get you now. Ok, when you pull into dock hit ESC. You will get the usual SAVE options on the left side of your screen, but look over to the bottom right hand side. You should see "DOCK AT LORIENT"(or WILHELMSHAVEN, etc)

Click on that and then the next time you start the game you should be in port wherever you docked. (you can then upgrade your crew, etc. prior to leaving for your next patrol)

Remember once you leave port to get out to sea quite a few miles before you save again. That should prevent having any weird glitches like ships imbedded in concrete and buildings and on fire, etc.

(and I agree with Irish that you should also get SH3 Commander...it really does add a lot to the game and is really user friendly. You can also use it to add things like Malfunctions and Sabotage...really immersive!)

Hope that helps!

:timeout:

Thats what I did last night was "dock at lorient" and went to the main command room to check my stats then exited the game completly. After a while I came back and went to load my game thinking i could just start were i finished after patrol at lorient but i didnt see anything like "load career" from lorient just my last save of "EH95" all the way out on the grid. Do you think right before I hit "dock at lorient" should save or is there an option in the command room.....

I know i just missing something very basic and i will end up>>>>> :damn:

Yup, you would have to do one more "SAVE" before exiting the game. What I do after docking is to "DOCK AT LORIENT", then I do my Crew upgrades, etc., and begin the next patrol.

Once I have started the new patrol, I then SAVE and EXIT. That way when I come back in I am right at the beginning of my patrol. (but again, don't forget to get a little way from port prior to that save)

Oh, and I usually SAVE just prior to reaching my home port. That way if anything goes sideways, I can just reload that Save and be only a few minutes from port.

SH3 Commander makes life a bunch easier for this stuff because you can do all your Crew upgrades, etc in Commander and then just go back in, hit Start SH3 and everything is ready for you to go.

But both ways work well if you don't want SH3 Commander.

No problem!

Happy to help. :DL

Oh, and you will love Commander. I put off installing for ages (not sure why now) and now I wouldn't go without it!

It would be nice if you could go to "Options/Graphics-Display" in Silent Hunter III and adjust the resolution as you would in any other game. But it's not, so I have a real good feeling about Silent Hunter 5... Just go with the flow and play it as it is, it's as nice as you can get for a submarine simulation right now, as for the German side of the story.
