I'm not really "excited" about MW2, even though I've played through the CoD4 story 10-15 times(its something I can pick up on the fly and play). Although I'm pre-ordering the Hardened edition when I get paid Tuesday.
CoD4 has a nice story and well polished gameplay. The only negative is its just its like Halo in the sense that everyone thinks its the sliced bread of gaming.

I'm mostly getting the hardened edition for the CoD1 download code :P.

I think there is also two other MW2 threads. I know one of them for sure because I made it, although it was mostly about the prestige edition.

The game I'm most excited about at the moment is Assassin's Creed 2.

Uncharted 2 ftw!!!!!

Uncharted 2 was great. PS3 GOTY for sure.

Absolutely! And I completely agree about the Halo comment lol. I enjoyed COD4, It's just not as good as people make out.

I was partially excited for it, but since there will be no dedicated servers, then as a PC gamer I join the others that boycott the game.

Not a huge loss for me anyway as I have other games I look way more forward too.

Just a heads-up on this one: It strongly looks like you'll be getting yet another console-port.

This pretty much sums it up:

Moriarte
Ignoring IW.net, is the PC version a direct port of the console version?

Mackey-IW
No, PC has custom stuff like mouse control, text chat in game, and graphics settings.

:yeah:

Yeah and you can add in that the max number from what I get is 9vs9, so I assume maps might not be the biggest, and that there is NO LEAN feature in the PC version ( I guess not on the console one either ).

Seriously as I read on another forum this seems to be one of the biggest
FU*K YOU from any devloper to a PC community, a PC community that of course was the one that made the series popular in the beginning.

No way in H*ell I buy this title, it looks like it will be a beta test for their new IW.net or whatever it is called.:damn:

wow, MW2 sounds like a weak game.

I'm mostly getting the hardened edition for the CoD1 download code :P.

Ahhh CoD when it was all pc. No grenade indicator, you had to listen for the tell-tale sound. No health regeneration either. CoD and the United Offensive expansion offered me some of the most fun I've had in first person multiplayer. The artillery barrage in UO was hilariously unfair at times though. I loved being the one dishing it out:yeah:. Gotta love 64 player battles on decent sized maps. I so miss CoD1 Search & Destroy mode with 64 players. That **** was intense!

I wonder why that game 'Joint Ops' never really got popular. I think you could play 120-something multiplayer in it. It was hella fun, but often became laggy as hell when I tried it.:nope: It was pretty cool when a team was losing a point, and then a bunch of em would pick mortars and bomb the hell out of the point, much to the dismay of the enemy that just captured it and decided to spawn there.

I'd like to see a new CoD with at least 64 player multiplayer AND decent sized maps right out of the box. I don't know how, but the maps in CoD1, despite being fairly small, felt just right for hectic (but not ridiculous) 64-player fights. Oh man I just remembered deployable machine guns in UO. They were awesome. Do the CoD game's still have those? Those mg's made capture-the-flag a more dangerous game.

I just saw Law Abiding Citizen and it made me think about the ability to control a Froster-Miller Talon armed with a .50 cal. It would be like the AC-130 scene from CoD4:MW. I know I would enjoy playing it.

Well I enjoy your disapointment towards the lack of dedicated servers, but by still buying the game in give your money to IW I can not see that it will do any good in the end.

By all means it is not a critique we can all do as we wish, but I have opted out buying the game independent of platform.

I always found that they aimed towards a younger, and more"bang bang" group...

I think thats just it, I really enjoyed the first ones ages ago. Then I jumped ship for a while, until I tried COD4. I dont like that stuff anymore, its more like watching a pretty cartoon while clicking the mouse here and there.

Thats never going to happen again.
Activision/IW have decreed that going forward COD on pc will be exactly as COD on console. That is to say COD as a pc game will be S H I T.

No dedicated servers
No more kicking or banning players from servers
IW.net decides who hosts
Automatic host migration
No mods
No lean
No console
FOV locked at 65
25% price increase over previous game
pc version is lucky to get mouse control and graphic settings

100% S H I T, not worthy of buying, renting or surfing the high seas.

Good one

On a more serious note this is starting to be quite a trend. Not that it has yet affected any games I'm seriously awaiting for(bar SH-series where the lack of dedi isn't really a problem), but things don't certainly look promising for PC gamers.

It depends really.
Some pc games have a multiplayer component where at most 3 to 6 players will play together. Other games such as Dangerous Waters don't need a dedicated server because of how the missions are played.
A game such as Falcon 4 that has a dynamic multiplayer campaign needs to have a dedicated server.
FPS games where more than 20 people are expeted to play on maps need a dedicated server.
What irks me is that everything in MW2 is a downgrade with respect to MW except the price that has gone up. This makes no sense and pc gamers should really be leaving this piece of C R A P on the shelves.

The original cover of Modern Warfare 2 ::haha:

That made my day:haha::yeah:

Since we are kind of on the topic of fps games, what are some good and very recent PC fps shoot em up games with dedicated servers and large multiplayer? Battlefield 2 is getting kinda old. I like playing with large maps and lots of people.

Multiplayer fps games that I recall playing and enjoying the hell out of are; the old CoD + UO, Battlefield 42, Red Orchestra, and Battlefield 2. I used to be into Quake and UT. I know UT is still around in some form or other, but somehow they aren't interesting to me anymore. There was a brief stint I enjoyed an mmo called Planetside, but monthly fee's aren't my thing so I ditched it long ago. Hows the action in Arma 2 online? Are there large scale player battles? I've only ever really did little co-op affairs. The Operation Flashpoint style of games just never seemed suitable for large player battles. Sure the huge maps and vehicles are there, but I don't think the game's popular enough for me to just join a 60+ player game whenever I feel like it.

I guess what I really want right now is another Battlefield game:dead: Any news on Red Orchestra 2?

ps. I would love it if every fps game would have proper bullet penetration. Also, I've yet to see anything top the awesomeness of Red Orchestra's 'suppression' effects.

I wonder... if I put CALL OF DUTY, THE UBER SUPER DUPER EDITION!!! on a peice of dog s*** if I could make tons of money off it. (and ruin some kids console who trys to shove it in...)

Modern warfare 2, get killed a new way!, no leaning! rush out and get shot, instead of leaning around and shooting!

There's usually one or two big Player vs. player servers with up to 120 guys playing, but other than that it's smaller scale stuff. Around 30 and below is pretty normal in coops. I get my "large scale event fix" in organized company at www.tacticalgamer.com/armed-assault, where they run a bi-weekly event with a normal turnout of over 50 people. That's about as much as the server can handle in coops because it also has to take care of AI. On normal nights at TG you can also have that kind of player numbers, but it's less organized because anyone can join while taking part in the events require you to sign up on the forums. The missions are normally complex enough that they have to be run organized or it'll fail miserably. :D

Just FYI tonight's TG event, due to start in an hour, has ~70 signups at this time. Arma2 with player numbers like this is just epic :yeah:

This is the part where you go through the Airport killing people?

I'm glad I work 6-2 on Tuesday, I'll go straight from work to my local gamestop and pick up my hardened edition.

Just finished it in SP. What can I say... I've always been a fan of the CoD series and it never ceased to amaze me how they come up with Stalingrad-like moments in every game. But Modern Warfare 2 simply amazed me. Some of the levels (it's so hard not to spoil...) beat anything I've ever seen in a FPS. I'm not an America America fan to say the least and yes, it's boring to see America invaded in almost every game/movie considering the real
situation :haha:.

But this game made me forget about politics for a while because it managed to hide patriotism under a hail of bullets. The threat felt so real that I even wondered if the russian players would feel proud to see such a huge and well equipped russian army. At times I just wanted to sit back and watch the fights. The airport level for one made my jaw drop... I was listening to Muse's Exogenesis Part1 from their last album and it all seemed slow motion to me. It was like the best joint I'll ever have :|\\. The pitch dark and rainy Washigton level almost made me cry of joy. It reminded me of the Berlin Metro Station level of the last CoD but with an apocalyptic twist. I wanted that level to never end, for the sun to never come back again and for the game to just turn into Fallout 3.

Some have complained about the graphics, but I can't understand why. I have a GTX 275, not exactly a top of the range card, but I've played it on max and at some moments I thought I was watching a 100 million dollar movie. The levels, the backgrounds, the animations, the special effects like fire sparks, pieces of flying paper, rain etc, all merged into something so good that I just wanted to pause and look around to let the image sink into my retina. And that's surprising because until now I hated modern day graphics and longed for the simpler times of Jedi Knight and Half Life when your enemies were not hidden by 999999 brightly colored polygons.

I keep hearing that the multiplayer part is bad and I too wished that the SP campaign would just go on and on. But for me at least, the SP campaign provided the most amazing moments I've ever experienced in any game.

Sadly a lot of kids will be getting their little hands on it. When I went to pick up my copy there were atleast 4-5 different Mom's getting it for their children or for someone else's child. I mute almost everyone in the MP matches just because they all sound like whiney little 12 year olds. :haha:

The story was great, they've totally set it up for a MW3 with the cliff hanger ending, and I can honestly say I want a MW3 already just to see what happens.

There's some Tactical Realism servers out there for COD2 - I was a big medal of honour spearhead fan (with all of the obj servers etc) and was saddened by the decline in the MOH gaming community. However COD2 is still packing in the WW2 experience with up to 64 players online, dedicated servers, console, anticheat admin (PB) and all of the controls you'd expect from a first class PC shooter.
Have you tried COD WAW?

One of the main reasons the last MOH title (MOH Airborne) fell on its face was due to the singular lack of multiplayer support, and with the whole game essentially playing like it was ported from a console to the pc. I was soooo looking forwards to that game, but was left feeling cheated. It was a great looking game and had lots of potential for longevity, but it was not to be - EA made their money and in doing so, killed off one of the most successful FPS franchises next to the COD series of titles.

Goldorak makes some rather damning statements regarding this latest COD release:
No dedicated servers
No more kicking or banning players from servers
IW.net decides who hosts
Automatic host migration
No mods
No lean
No console
FOV locked at 65
25% price increase over previous game
pc version is lucky to get mouse control and graphic settings

As a short-list for killing a lively gaming community, it sure ticks all the right boxes... just like EA did with MOH Airborne.

On the basis of a short (though engaging) single player campaign, I will not be parting with my cash for this title if there is no multiplayer infrastructure.
If I wanted to play console style games I'd get a PS3 and tekken 6 and forget about playing any game more than once before throwing it in the bin, or trading it in at the second-hand game section of my local blockbuster video, for something equally transient.

Yeah I've played on those kinds of servers. Great fun, but COD 2 pretty much killed the franchise for me. I enjoyed the game for about a year I think. I would not have given it that long had it not been for those realism servers.

I have not tried any COD game after COD2. It really did kill the game for me. No way in hell was I going back unless they released one on pc only (pretty funny that, right after that, they released one on console only). Desperate for a new multiplayer fps game, I almost gave WAW a try, but I watched a bunch of videos and thought it sucked. In all the vids I've seen it was just small engagements in equally small maps.
