I saw quite a lot of pretty hard horrormovies as a little kid, I was always eaves dropping when the television announcer said that the next movie is not recommended for kids. Some of them frightened me but I don't necessarily consider them great films today. I remember Psycho 2 being pretty scary and also Wickerman which was recently stupidly remade with Nicholas Cage.

Exorcist 1 is still a nice interesting film to look at. I also like Alien 1 and Jaws 1. I even read Peter Benchleys book, not as good as the film.

The Shining was recently voted as no. 1 most scary horror film in some vote and it's ok I guess although I mostly don't like supernatural stuff.

The original "A Nightmare On Elm Street" scared the *expletive* out of me when I first saw it. Before they made him a stupid comedy character who had to get a one liner in every time he killed someone, Fred Kreuger was SCARRY as hell ! I had nightmares for weeks after seeing that movie. That first movie really did it right. Even the seccond one, while nowhere NEAR as good as the first one did it right.

Alien

Well, I saw Alien (my favourite film of all time) at a midnight screening at the Vue complex in Edinburgh when it was re-released a few years ago. There were only about 50 or so people in attendance, in particular a group of about a dozen kids aged about 18-20 sitting near the front. For the first 15 minutes they were joking around, generally making a lot of noise and giggling, etc. However, the scenes of the alien derelict, Space Jockey and facehugger cut the noise output close to zero, and when John Hurt bites it there were visible jumps of fear, and stifled screams from a couple of the girls. Even a few of the guys had their hands over their eyes when Harry Dean Stanton goes looking for the cat.

By far the best part was where the Captain, Tom Skerritt, is in the air shafts looking for the creature. I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen the film, but that bit produced the biggest collective scream I have ever heard in a cinema :DL. It was great to see that at least some kids haven't been completely desensitised by crap like Saw, Hostel, etc.

Since I have been a little boy(yes even I have been a little kid)

I had this fascination for scary movies. Don't ask me why.

My favorite Scary movie?? Hmm...er..

Well there's lots og them, so it's hart to pick one.

but somehow I must say that those from the olderdays, like those Dracula movies(starring Christopher Lee) has it's charm.

A couple a years ago, I watch one of those Dracula movies again, I just can't remember wich it was, but Lee was the Count and it was in colour
While watching it, I thought for my self...

lol...and that movie made me afraid from going, to sleep when I was a little boy.

Remember how I was watching this movie throu the narrow opening in the door. (they we're talking German)and we had only a black and white tv at that time.

All of the Halloween: Michael Myers movies and SAW series. My real favorite is the Michael Myers movie BEFORE the "Halloween 4: Michael Myer Returns" one.

The 1963 film "Black Sabbath" with Boris Karloff. One of the three stories told in the film called "The Drop of Water" scared the daylights out of me when I was a kid. To this day I still have a hard time watching it.

Oh hell, SubV...The Omen. My mom took me to see that. That scared the friggin crap out of me. :o Then she took us to see, 'The Sentinal" 1977. WTH mom? I could not eat my damn JuJu Bees or Snow Caps to save my arse. Friggin blind priest guarding the gates of hell

In the wake of such Satanic-themed thrillers as Rosemary's Baby (http://www.subsim.com/topic/rosemary-s-baby-film-1), The Exorcist (http://www.subsim.com/topic/the-exorcist-film) and The Omen (http://www.subsim.com/topic/the-omen) comes The Sentinel. When New York fashion model (Cristina Raines (http://www.subsim.com/topic/cristina-raines)) splits with her fiance (Chris Sarandon (http://www.subsim.com/topic/chris-sarandon)) and moves into an old brownstone, she soon discovers she has more than she bargained for in the lease. As luck would have it, a mysterious blind priest (John Carradine (http://www.subsim.com/topic/john-carradine)) who lives upstairs happens to be guarding the doorway to Hell, and she has been chosen as his replacement. Incidentally, when the door is finally opened, out spills an assortment of deformed humans whom director Michael Winner hand-picked from hospital wards and circus sideshows. ~ Jeremy Beday, All Movie Guide
Review

Nothing scares the hell out of people like religion, and the Catholic Church, with its centuries of history and arcane rituals, has figured in dozens of horror pictures that seek to exploit the combination of fear and respect that people (non-adherents in particular) hold for its priests. The Sentinel certainly follows in the footsteps of films like The Exorcist (http://www.subsim.com/topic/the-exorcist-film) which apply a Catholic theological approach to questions of heaven and hell, but the film opens with some stylistic cops from Rosemary's Baby (http://www.subsim.com/topic/rosemary-s-baby-film-1), a more doctrine-neutral occult tale. New York model Christina Raines' new apartment building is populated by a group of eccentric neighbors (including Burgess Meredith (http://www.subsim.com/topic/burgess-meredith) as the nosy Ruth Gordon (http://www.subsim.com/topic/ruth-gordon) character) who expend an inordinate amount of effort to draw her into their circle. When it's discovered that they may or may not be figments of her imagination, The Sentinel's story finds some nice twists of its own, and ultimately succeeds as a creepy little trifle for those who can accept the Catholic Church as a sinister institution that forces innocent nonbelievers into servitude at the gates of Hell. Star watchers will also enjoy seeing future lead players such as Jeff Goldblum (http://www.subsim.com/topic/jeff-goldblum), Jerry Orbach (http://www.subsim.com/topic/jerry-orbach), and Christopher Walken (http://www.subsim.com/topic/christopher-walken) in minor supporting roles

Favorite scary movie of all time is "The Echo" (2008) a remake of Filipino horror Sigaw.

"An ex-con moves into an old apartment building, where he encounters a domestic problem involving a police officer, his wife, and their daughter. When he tries to intervene, however, a mysterious curse entraps him" Yeah another curse one but The Echo beats them all (The Grudge, The Ring).

Dont watch it alone..

The last movie that really scared me was "Room 1408" with John Cusack. I even had a strange dream that loosely went along the theme of the movie a few weeks ago.

I'm stil waiting for that horror movie that would scare the hell out of me.

You have to see this or this movie, it's really scaring the hell out of you, most of my friends say to me. So I look at those movies, mostly by my self, but at most I just yawn about the movie. So i'm stil waiting.

That's because you haven't got any imagination at all! IF you had, you would be scared. That is what some of my friends have told me.

I'm not saying that a movie is bad like that

Most of those horror movis like the thing...Alien...A very good indeed but they didn't scare the hell out of me.

Well, that if this tense i feel, when I see thise movies, is the same as being scared.

But I also feel this tense when I see The Terminator or any good action movies.
