So long, old friend.

I had several submarine websites on GeoCities, to save space from the early days.
Facebook, some day this could be you!

My second site was on there.
Shame, so how many other free hosting sites are there?
I don't want to have to set up a Facebook page if I don't want to.
end of an era.

Brimming with blinking, moving, garishly colored text and animated dancing cats, GeoCities made MySpace look like a bastion of elegance and restraint.
:haha:
I wasent even aware that yahoo had bought them up. I suppose you could have seen the writing on the wall at that point.
I had a geocities account!
I had one too, grabbed the stuff from it a few months ago when I heard that it was folding up.

I've had a few personal websites (which I left rot) but I never used Geocities. 15MB with ads just wasn't competitive by the time I used it.

Oh well, at least EZ Board which was one of the first incarnations of this forum is still around, although I think it's now called Yuku.

Wow. That's definitely an end to an era. My first website was on Fortunecity, but my other two were on Geocities. Back then I liked the website editor a lot better with Geocities than Fortunecity. I remember one website was dedicated to the old computer game Super Off-Road. Another was for a squadron for NovaLogic's F-22 Lightning 3.

Wow! It is an end of an era indeed! I guess it shows how far we have come from the early days of the internet.
