So given that I'm a native Houstonian, I've been determined to save the USS Houston if at all possible during the Battle of Sunda Strait. So I sink the Japanese heavy cruisers before they fire on the ABDA cruisers. I sink several of the destroyers and pull most of the rest off the ABDA cruisers so they can concentrate on just one destroyer...BUT the cruisers can't seem to hit the side of a barn. The one itty bitty destroyer keeps sinking the Australian light cruiser and stopping the USS Houston dead in the water.
Your gunnery sucks ABDA. From this point forward I'm referring to you as ABBA. Mamma mia! Learn to shoot.

Not a stand-alone scenario...just one of the stock battles built into the game. Though, I'm running RSRD. So, I'm not sure if the mod does anything with it.
See the "Battle of Sunda Strait" in this post for location/date/time:

They were not hitting because ABDA ships skill level is prob set to competent, novice or poor and IJN ships are set to vet and elite. You check by using the ME to open up the file and check their settings.
The prob did this to make sure the battle worked out as it did historically, with IJN winning.Lets face, the IJN was on it's A game back in 42 and the Allies were not.
I have recreated some battles with the ME and set them all on same skills and itll make a pretty even fight usually, unless you have a DD fighting a CA or a BB.
Pretty fun to watch them slug it out though and then take advantage when see an opening.I had recreated the Battle of Savo Island.Allies were getting waxed as they did, saw an opening to take out a heavy CA...fired 6 Mark 14's from bow tubes and 4 from stern at 6000 yards....7 hit the CA, huge explosion. One of the other stern fish split a DD in two, Allies still lost battle but I was able to help somewhat.Lots of nice visuals.

Yep...checked in the mission editor, and they're set on "competent." I've destroyed all the cruisers and destroyers. Now they're getting shellacked by all the merchants in the large convoy. How embarrasing is it for an American heavy cruiser to get sunk by a bunch of Japanese merchies? Anyway, it's been fun to try and keep them up. All the destroyers better watch out b/c I'm getting pretty good at sinking them on the run.
