First up is stalker. Anybody know what this ability does? I've had this one awhile now and I can't seem to observe any difference whatsoever. The only thing I can think of is that if you're playing with map contacts enabled maybe it adds more information there?

Second is expert sonar man. The game says that it increases detection range and offers information about the ship's heading. I've definitely noticed the increased detection range (hey, my sonar guy isn't stone deaf anymore!) but the heading information seems to be exactly the same? I must admit that this one was gotten very recently, so it may simply be that I don't know what to look for.

Just remembered, does anybody have any idea what the crew medals actually do? I know they do something vaguely good, but what exactly that is eludes me...

Crew medals raise morale. That's helpful in stressful situations.

As far as the special abilities go, I just try to avoid them. So far I've disposed of all special ability crewmembers in the name of reality. I may check them out again if I survive that long in my present career. But it's December 1941! I have a LONG way to go...:salute:

I can see that point of view, especially for some. However, others are not specifically unrealistic. A perfect example is the expert sonar man. His detection boost is not so impressive that he now outranges what I can hear if I check myself. In fact, I'd have to say It's still somewhat better to check with your own ears. But hell, before he was *really* stone deaf imho.

The one that gives you an extra 1 knot speed boost isn't necessarily unrealistic either, just the guys in the engine rooms know how to push the works to get the absolute best out of the ship.

On others, I'd have to agree with you though, like the guy that literally doubles the deck gun's rate of fire, so it's a mixed bag. I just take it on a case by case basis.

In my current carreer, I started with the s-boat out of the Philippines at the start of the war. It's now mid may of 43, just got a shiny new Balao and the mark 14s will improve dramatically in a meer couple of weeks! Last patrol was literally the best I ever had in tonnage. A picture is worth a thousand words so here's what I found moored in truk harbor:

OOOOOOO that screenshot is a thing of beauty. My trip to Truk Lagoon was very memorable as well. Be sure to give 'em a good spread in case they decide to exhibit their dragster-like tendencies!
