Windows 7 states starforce protection is incompatable. tried starforce driver update but still won't recognize it. Starforce is trying to help. Ubi has nothing. This is the reply from starforce.
The game is protected with too old protection system version and won't run on Windows 7 http://www.star-force.com/support/users/windows7/ (your game protection version is 3.4). You should contact your product customer support service and ask them to make a patch, which will either update protection system version or remove protection at all. Unfortunately, we can't build such a patch on our side since we have neither legal authority to produce any patches nor original game files required for that.

Hi, and welcome aboard.
I suggest you spend $10 and buy the SH3 version without starforce and already patched to v1.4b.
Then install it outside of the program\program(86) folders.

Uh oh!
I was thinking of upgrading from Vista to 7.
One has to wonder, will the Starforce already on this system (with SH3) screw up my upgrade?
This is wierd because, 7 is supposed to solve compatability problems that plagued Vista.
Hey! Vista also told me it was incompatable, and I installed it anyway.
2 years later, and I still have no problems.
Now I'm confused again.

I have to get this off my chest :yep:
I know I'm not helping your situation by posting this post :hmph:, but; why am I not amazed at seeing a thread call "Window 7 problem" :06: I feel sorry for you guys who are having to go through all the same crap as the Vista lads :dead:.
Only two nights ago, I was a Windows XP lad with no drama's in the world, didn't give two hoots with regards to the drama's the Vista lads were having with SHIII, then karma hit me between the eyes....:o My PC shat itself, flat line, kaput, dead, slam dunk, boom, bang, bonk...:wah:
Last night I became a PC Gamer in a world of hurt, why; because the only other PC in the house was my teenage daughter's Vista Laptop. About a year ago I brought a dusty $10 copy of SHIII, amazingly it's patched to 1.4b already and is Vista friendly :yeah:
I hope and prey your Windows 7 nightmare works out for you, I hope soon you can play this awesome game . I laugh at no one anymore :nope: If anyone can work out a windows 7 fix, lets us know...as I think we are all headed to Windows 7 sooner than later
Kind Regards

Hey, which Aussie copy is the one to buy sans Starforce and patched to 1.4b?
I pray every morning my XP computer does not crap out.
However for "insurance" purposes, where can you order this SH III patched copy without starforce?
I agree with the other poster, it is sad to read these posts.

I finally got SH3 working on Unbuntu about one week before my computer died.
My other computer has Vista 64 and SH3 and4 works fine but I upgraded to Windows7.
So I am working with Windows7 now and have had some issues with SH3 (but not with SH4), mostly graphic and special features such as F11 F12 "," and "."
Also, I can't get the game to run in full screen; it runs in true 4-3 with black bars. I haven't tried Rubini's wide screen mod yet, or the resolution fix. When I tried the resolution fix on Vista, my frame rate dropped into the single digits from 60+ under load.
JScones and Rconch Starforce free and patched SH3 is available from Subsim store, Amazon, and several other sources. I don't know about outside of USA, however. Check your PM.

So, what's the recommendation?
Inplace Upgrade to Windows 7 with my current version of SHIII already installed (problem free) on Vista?
Or, Wait for SHV, uninstall SHIII and Starforce, Upgrade to Windows 7, Install SHII & SHIII Combination (No Starforce), and finaly, install SHV?

Just use the no-cd crack for SH3.
It's already authorized.

That would be a 3. option, but I already own 2 copies.
It's just a question of whether the Starforce copy will have to be replaced with my newest Non-Starforce version. Like most people, I'm not a fan of doing extra work, if avoidable. The newer version is for when the extra work isn't avoidable.
I recently bought this (http://www.amazon.fr/Mindscape-Silent-hunter-3/dp/B001J8S1P8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1257278699&sr=1-1) copy of SH3. It is vista friendly and patched to 1.4b. I installed it outside the Program Files and installed GWX3. Up to now i have encountered no problems.:yep:

I have tried this fix and still am unable to get SHIII working at a screen resolution of 1920x1200 which is the native resolution of my 24' monitor. THis may seem a dumb question, but what is the difference between SHIII folder and the SHIII Directory?

Is this Vista 32 or 64?
Vista 32 seems to be ok.
It appears to be 64bit OS where the Starforce problems start.
I eventually went back to my old pc (XP 32) to continue with SH3

Just the two words you just copy them into the Silent Hunter III file and not into any of the data folders that's all it means
I take it you did change the resX and resY to your native settings.
if widows 7 displays full screen at a certain resolution then that is the setting you use. :salute:

Thanks for responding to my dumb question, Seawolf. Yes I did change xres and yres to 1920x1200. My Win 7 settings are at 1920x1200 at 60 Hz. I'm unable to get the shiii.exe to respond now at all. I guess I must have done something wrong.
