Hi new here! I looked around a little bit trying to find something to tell me good mods but there is to much stuff!!

Can anyone tell me the basic "must have" mods for this game?

I dont want like 3500 mods just the best ones out there!

Thanks!

Very interested to hear what other replies you get, but I've really enjoyed using just two mods...Trigger Maru [TMO] and Run Silent Run Deep [RSRD]. Trigger Maru is a mod compilation that tweaks a ton of things about the look and feel of the game. RSRD cleans up the campaign stuff.

I guess the mega mods are TMO, RFB, OM, GFO, RSRDC. They're all good. Check them out and pick one most suits your style

Trigger Maru (TMO) is pretty popular but it's too hard for me.

I currently running on Game Fixes Only (GFO); as the name implies, instead of a revamp, it fixes numerous bugs & stuff in the stock game. I also use Run Silent Run Deep Campaign (RSRDC) which makes the campaigns more immersive. I like this combination because they don't change the stock game too much.

Essentials for me are bearing overlay, nomograph, and 1 degree bearing for the optics (I use the one from RFB).

I'm considering Real Fleet Boat (RFB) because it reworks crew management and sinking mechanics to closely match the real thing.

If I can get it working (not the modders' shortcoming, I just haven't figured out what I've been doing wrong) I'd install Operation Monsun (OM); it opens up Uboat operations in the Atlantic.

Another popular mod is Ship Centered Accuracy Fix (SCAF); it fixes the ship's measurements so our readings are deadly accurate. I don't use this, though-I rely on the GFO fix.

For "a'la carte" mods, I use TGT DIALS TO PK FIX, darker recognition manual, MaxOptics, OakGrooves dials, RCM (bearing lines on radar screen and a range counter), Captain Midnight's CBS news, and More Contrast to Design Instruments.

Just an added info, because I really like them: for SH3, I use the Greywolves Expansion (GWX 3.0), TMT2, MEP2.1, the metal ManosGUI, and Anvart's sub flag mod.

Hope this doesn't add to your confusion :D

Awesome replys! Thanks for the help! I just hope my PC Rig can handle the game...

AMD XP 2800+ at 2.3G
nvidia gforce 6200

Should this work?

I know I have heard the quote pasted on your signature somewhere.:D

Personally, I like my WW2 quote better.:stare:

Any of the 'supermods' will serve you fine. RFB is my favorite, although it can be a bit frustrating if you're new to all this,...and TMO seems to operate from pure evil... There's many a dead sub from that mod..lol.

If I had to recommend one 'must have', though it's RSRD. I wouldn't play without lurker's mod, it essentially re-writes the campaign layer and makes traffic much more realistic, not just crazy random like the stock game. At first glance you might think you're in an empty sea, but once you get the flow you'll recognize the 'hot spots' for enemy shipping...

So just install RSRD and thats it? I dont need any other mods? Is this RSRD and exe. file or do I have to find the directory? I guess ill try and figure some of this stuff out?!?!

Well, 'need' is hard to define. It's of course based on what you are looking for in a modification of the game...

If you want to try any of the 'supermods' , I would recommend reading the readme files for those first. It's a lot of info to sift thru, but it will tell you everything that's involved with those. Those big mods like RFB and TMO literally touch on most EVERY aspect of the game, including but not limited to: graphics, physics, audio, crew management, damage, plotting, enemy AI behavior, etc etc. They in a sense "overhaul" the entire game and make it much more realistic.

RSRD is a mod that simply affects the enemy traffic. It doesn't change how the game looks or behaves. It simply puts the enemy where he was supposed to be historically and in the correct groups, etc. (I.e, there won't be 3 Yamatos cruising around aimlessly...)

Again, it really depends on what you are after though. More realism and a challenge? Then give one of the supermods a try.

If you just want some graphics changes, those mods are aplenty also...do a search in the list at the top. Whatever you are looking for has probably been 'modded' if possible.

The first thing you'll need is the mod enabler tool. That lets you quickly and painlessly install / uninstall thsese mods. Almost every mod on this site is compatible with this:

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=156898

And there's no harm, in just trying some of these after all, if you don't like em, just uninstall. :salute:

Hope some of this makes sense...

Btw, I can imagine, all this "TMO, RFB, JSME, RSRD" seems a bit crazy...lol. Everyone on this board rocks and will help you though, so no worries.

*note* Watch out for RR, he likes to blow up his own Navy... :DL

first download and learn to use JGSME to activate mods. What mods you use depends on your skill level. If you are on auto targeting, it really doesn't matter. If manual targeting, you can choose from hundreds. For example, if you want to be devoured when your boat is sunk, you can download a mod with the White Death (Great White Sharks) :wah:, and so on. Jump in, and while you are in the water, try a few mods. If you make it out alive, then you will know what you need.

With SH4 and a little program called MultiSH4 you can multiple installs of the program and then load each one with its individual MODS, its very flexible and that way you can get a taste of the whole gamut that is served up here for our enjoyment.

Hoping somebody can help. I loaded Webster's GFO with Real Environments and RSRD plus the recommended patches.

The campaign games starts off with no problem, but sometime into the first or second patrol my speed time begins to malfunction and I am unable to speed up more than 128 - 256.

Might anybody know what is causing this?

Thanks

it might be your computer is limited, sh4 uses way way more then the specs say it does so try it without the Real Environments mod

i also "think" theres is a limit on how much time compression you can use with the Real Environments mod but i could be wrong about that.

I'm currently downloading the Game Fixes Only Mod, Real Environment and Run Silent, Run Deep Campaign. I'll use this combination and let you guys know how it works out. I also have the Playable Cleveland Career mod installed and will try that out as well.

thought id throw my list in their. ;)
here they are in order i use them in Generic Mod Enabler.

TriggerMAru_Overhaul_19
(almost a bit to tough.. i dont like the things it removed from the targetting system mostly, bearing tool is gone (one of these others adds it back thank god), but i like the other things he added)

#4 Ships_Relfect and Caustic_Enviroment Mod 5.1 (simplified version)
(the normal version gives a crash to desktop even with no mods installed.. this mod looks really wicked tho)

#1 Real Enviroment mod install
(adds more nice looking stuff.)

SMMO for TMO 1.9
(a collection of mods i like all wrapped into one. i use this optional shipwake, but not his other optionals-overkill on hardcore)

More Contrast for the Design Instruments
(this one doesnt conflict with anything..)

OAKsHudGauges

Small Radar Contacts Stage 1
(makes radar blips small so their easier to see)

Websters No Crew Fatigue
(lol im not sure if this ones working but it doesnt conflict with anything)

TORPEDO +25% more powerful
(i like this one.. just gives the torps a lil more mmff. still takes several to take some bigger ships out)

TGT DIALS TO PK FIX -TMO
(also known as Easy AOB mod... this is a MUST.. its awesome. allows you to turn the aob and have the other knob spin and stuff.. cant go back to not using this now, ever.. lol. hope sh5 has this option. ;)

SCAF for SH 1.5
(this gives you some more info on using manual id and pull down range finding.)

MyMenu
(i made this using SH4-Menumaker, since one of the other mods took TMO's snazzy gui bar away.. (im color blind so i like gui with very different looking colors-graphic than the default))

SMMO_TMO_loadscrean
(i made this by just using the loading screen from smmo since SCAF overwrote it).

Lite_fog_V2+Slow_water
(i dont think smmo is using slow water or v2 of fog lite so i kept this in)

----------

mods i wished worked but dont now...

1: primarily the 3000 yard bearing tool.
it overwrites maxoptics i beleive thats builtinto one of the others (but cant add maxoptics afterwards or it overwrites 3000yard bearing tool), which i care for more so dealt with it (i prefer having the extra bit of viewing distance). at least one of the other mods adds a bearing tool back to the map that TMO took away (ugh).. otherwise i wouldnt even use tmo at all.

2: the latest RSRD.. doesnt work with my caustic-reflections 5.1 mod.. yet. id rather have more realistic looking game than the extra mission stuff so i was forced to choose for now.

3: SDantenna_UpDown
this doesnt seem to like SH4-1.5

ive tried out a ton of other mods but this is what i ended up with.. some dont work, others are decent but overwrite other files or are made obsolete by these other mods, so have to be picky.

this setup also allows for keeping the tmo free movement camera which is nice.

have fun ;)
