To be fair to Ju-88 the idea behind posting was a mixture of getting some traffic and telling people about the Sub where it might be of interest. Someone on another sub forum picked up one of our stories a few months back and we got about 800 visits from it! (once a webmaster always a webmaster!) I do play a few RTS and RWS games which is why I know many people who play are pretty interested in the subject of the game! Although I haven't considered submarine sims before I think i will have to look into them! Looks like a pretty friendly community too (except in battle i'm sure):salute:

No probs mate, Sorry i was suspcious - but only because there has been an infux in spam here in recent weeks.
But you may me interested to know that i passed my PADI open water diver certification earlier this year, so if you dont mind I will certainly add your site to my bookmarks :up: I am only certified to dive 18 meters though :(
And yes i defintaly recomend that you try out Silent Hunter 3 or 4, you can pick either one up dirt cheap these days.

The Submarine is at a depth of approximately 100m, achievable dive for most experienced divers. It's good news for those families who never really knew there exact whereabouts (MIA); now at least they know where they are. Hopefully none of the divers will make fatal mistakes as the three experienced divers who perished diving to find the identity of U869.

that being said, the water of that area is cold and preserves things almost perfectly. It will be an interesting wreck to explore, and hopefully the remains will be respected.

"Experienced" is in the eye of the beholder. I don't mean this to counter your point, but to enhance it. :up:

100m is well beyond the recreational limit of diving, and would require a technical kit and training that exceeds what most divers can afford and are willing to spend. I notice in the pictures of the wreck, the people who found it were using an ROV or possibly a manned submersible. They weren't diving on the wreck.

I'm an experienced diver with a Master Diver rating, and I've yet to exceed 30m in depth. The idea of going to 100m blows my mind, and I'm a mixed-gas diver. Also, the colder, darker water where this was found is far different than the warm, clear, tropical waters where -most- divers dive. That change in environment makes it much more intense diving.

The people who do dive to these depths are out there on the fringe of the diving community. I would say they have skills well beyond "experienced". To me, they are more like "god-like". :yeah:

While I would love to dive down there and touch a piece of history like this, I think at the age of (almost) 40, I will have to sit on the boat and wish. To those who can make this dive, and return alive and unharmed, I salute you. And to the crew as well. :salute:

As a final though, I thank Dive Magazine for bringing this here. I think many people fascinated by submarines in history are divers, or potential divers, and I see no conflict of interest at all in cross-posting excellent information like this. I had not heard of this find. Thanks, DM!

42 meters is the MAX safe depth for recriational divers and already that is pretty damn dangerous...
At this depth your bottom time cannot exceed more than 7 minutes before have to start your accent.
- unless you want Decompression sickness or Nitrogen Narcosis (both can be fatal)

100 meters is off the charts, any human equipped with regular scuba gear at that depth - will die!.
You'd need some kind of deep sea diving equipment or something not far off from being a 'submarine' suit :haha:

Wow, being where she is, and the condition of her , from only seeing the hatch photo, I would love to see more!,
Sadly, from those of us who have dived in this area, those crew on board, Odds are, they are still there, and not desolved as bodies do in the Calcium poor waters.
Around one wreck there I have seen ROV film of, the W. Gustov, the bodies were all very much around her and within her. Very Spooky video. If they did not abandon ship , she (e18) might be the same.

Mister Dive Magazine, might I suggest starting a thread here http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/forumdisplay.php?f=186 dedicated to sub wreck sites? A simple first post updated with news and links would be greatly appreciated by this community. Anyway, such info doesn't belong on the SH5 section.

@Admiral Von G.: I'd rather they raise it to the surface and turn it into a museum without restoring her too much. The honorable crew might feel better buried on home soil and they'll surely be more respected and remembered in such a way than by being left at the bottom of the sea.
