Bought SH3, patched and got GWX and embarked on my first mission out of Konigsberg however any time i get near base I seem to get blown out of the water by my own defenses. I know i'm missing something very basic here but would appreciate any pointers.

I've tried it a few times and have been shot up by coastal batteries on the way in but I got closest today, just outside the port, however the whole place lit up like a christmas tree and a naval artillery barge sank one of its own ships before sinking me...what am i doing wrong

Starting in Konigsburg suggests you are starting your career in august '39? I have never done that myself, but some options to try,
1) start in September, Kiel or Wilhelmshaven
2) Install SH3 commander and it will allow the option 'Start at sea'. You'll be teleported out the dock to several miles out to sea and might get past the defenses.
Good Hunting!:salute:

When you sink a 'neutral' ship, you automatically become the enemy of all neutral ships for 24 hours. As your first GWX mission takes place before the war breaks out, all ships are neutral so you become the enemy of everybody. Try finishing your mission then press 'Esc' to return to base. Docking back home is impossible without sustaining some damage.

As I routinely start in the 7th Flotilla in Koingsberg, I also routinely go out , following orders, and nail ALL of the target ships in AO98 - which makes me persona non grata to everyone as stated. But as your orders are basically to run drills and cruise around until you receive orders to "Return to Konigsberg and transfer to the 1st/2nd Flotilla" just crusing around in AO98 for two days after nailing everything in sight "clears" your infamy and you can then dock as normal. I consider it a matter of pride that I always end up at full stop exactly in the slip. This also gives you the first patrol success required so as to train your crew using SH3 Commander before the actual war starts!

That should work, but please let us know how you get on.

Those 'orders' are from GWX. I never sink anything until it becomes an enemy, at the first of September. Enjoy the sights, stay out of trouble and give your crew plenty of practice. The war comes soon enough.:sunny:

Thanks to all for the advice, will try it again this evening....sank a few ships in the original mission and never realised I was persona non grata, although I did suspect i had done something 'bad'.

Much appreciated:salute:

He only must wait for the war starts and stop to be agressive to the neutral shipping and check her nationality before attacks it will help too!

As stated, this is my routine lately. Leave Konigsberg on the 1st, have all targeting ships sunk by the 2nd, cruise in the lagoon well away from any ports/facilities/ships until I get the radio message on the fouth, then head for the barn - usually docking on the 5th. This has worked for my last six Kaleuns. Now if I can just last until I can transfer to those lovely sub pens in France .....

(Sub Commander retired two - one after 7 patrols, the other after only 4 - the rest died "Being More Aggressive") - haven't made it to the fall of France yet ......
