I'm a fallout fan. I have fallout, #2 and Tactics. Fallout 3 I won't touch. So don't even get me started with beth. :D
I have all those games installed and using Killap's restorations mods. with some tweaks and resolution fixes by mash.
great stuff. Still fun to play.. :03:
Works like a charm in win7 64bits.:yeah:

I have Fallout 3 with all the DLC. The later two, Mother Ship Zeta, and Point Lookout are the best in my opinion.
I've played some of Fallout 1.

Am a huge Fallout fan, have Fallout, #2 and #3. Tactics was utter crap. # Was also nothing too special, but it had its moments and captured the atmospehre respectably well, but was way too simple.

Big fan of 3, was oblivious to the series before that. Waiting to pick up GOTY (haven't got any DLC yet), probably pick up that bundle with the earlier games as well.
(Ehr, not to derail it or something, but it seems like a good place to ask: is FO3 really a Fallout game?)

Fallout 1 and 2 was a master pice, imho. The 3 rd one could be great if the developers could put more affort into a main story. After i manage to beat the game i lost my interest.

I have to agree with most of you, Fallout 3 was not really fallout just more Oblivion with different graphics.
That said, Fallout 3 is still a fun and great game in its own right.
Fallout 3 was a Brill game. They really put alot of time and effort into making one hell of a game and it got some fantastic scores from anyone who touched it.

I love the Fallout games. I have 1, 2, tactics, 3 and all the 'dlc'.
The high resolution fixes for the old Fallout game's are super awesome and allows me to enjoy the games on my big displays.
I hated Fallout 3 at first. Now I am playing it with FWE (among other mods) and it is a pleasure. I also enjoy playing it in realtime (no vats) now that I have 'maximum pre-rendered frames' set to 0 with my video card's control panel. Didn't know before that that setting could mean the difference between a playable and unplayable game. At the default setting of '3', aiming/looking felt floaty and laggy. I also like that bullet-time mod. Cool mix of the control of real-time and the concentration of vats. It feels balanced too because it uses AP's.

I've been a regular FO 1 & 2 player ever since the first game came out. Played a little bit of 3 vanilla when it came out but got rid of it due to the horrendous crashing. Will get the GOTY edition eventually and mod the heck out of it and give it another go. The thing is is that the guys at Bethesda are really good at game concepts but crappy with their programming. But by now I've come to expect nothing else.

Ehr, stable as a rock for me... now. :D Few CTDs when it first hit the shelves, but I don't consider a crash every 3-5 hours game-breaking. :06:
Morrowind and Oblivion as well; nothing more severe than a CTD (as opposed to hard-lock on some other stuff), stable after 1 or 2 patches. Imho Beth does a far better job than most studios. :yep:

Fallout 3 is an unstable monster for me. I get totally random crashes. Heck sometimes I can go a whole day without a crash and other times I will just crash and crash and crash.
For me the, the worst, most ANNOYING technical problem I have with Fallout 3 is when it randomly decides to MINIMIZE (not crash). It will do this once sometime after starting the game and loading a save. After that it wont do it again until the next time I start the game. It is a pain in the ass I tell you! It does it in every session and sometimes FO3 refuses to open up again after being minimized. So I might want to play FO3 and wind up loading a game, have it minimize after a while, try to max it, end process, load again and hope it re-opens next time it minimizes.
I have that same minimize problem with GTA 4. Oddly enough, the only 'xbox live' pc games I own. I've tried playing 'liveless' but it's the same ****. I don't know why those two games do that.
I remember back when people said Morrowind was unstable and crashed all the time. I had absolutely no problems like that with it. I heard people say the same of Oblivion and yet it rarely crashed on me. Now I'm part of the group that has an unstable Bethesda game.
I don't consider a crash every 3-5 hours game-breaking.hrmm maybe not game-breaking, but certainly annoying. I get hard locks with any game it seems if I upgrade my Nvidia video drivers to 190.anything. I don't know what's up with that. So I stuck with 186 or something.

Yes, definetly annoying. :hmmm: Well, every game is different and every PC is different. No surprise you came acoss something that doesn't run stable, but to blame it on Beth doesn't seem accurate, especially since you never had any problems with the TES games while most couldn't get them to run stable. ;)

Generally speaking (all fallout titles), what would you guys say is your favorite type of build? It seems like a lot of people have an affinity towards high crit% sniper builds.
I usually find myself enjoying melee and unarmed types. Between those two I can go either way. I like being able to get a lot of unarmed attacks in a round, but I also like the brute strength of a single mighty death dealing melee swing.
I remember one time I tried (never finished though) a one hander+fast shot guy in Fallout 2. My goal was to have a sort of quick draw guy that can dish out a bunch of pistol shots in a single round of combat. I remember being a little surprised with how fun it was to be a pistol slinging badass. I'd like to try that one again. I wonder how he would fare later in the game:-? gauss pistol should be the way to go and a nice 223. Maybe instead I might try finesse and fast shot.:hmmm::confused: Should I go for laser pistols or does anybody suppose that small guns will work just fine throughout the game? I honestly haven't used laser weapons in anything but Fallout 3.
ps. I never choose 'gifted' because I think it's cheating:nope:
Oh yea, has anybody tried to play a jinxed character? It is FUN. It seemed to work in my favor very often in Fallout 2, but when I tried it in tactics it didn't seem to help out much. I always used high luck with jinxed. Never really knew if the luck made things better for me, but man the enemy would constantly do silly things. I also made jinxed characters unarmed or melee for fear of the things that would happen if I used anything else!

What type of character? Sneaky. :D
Always go with stealth classes; Roque in D&D, high agility and sneak for stealth kills in Beth games, etc. Nothing like blowing the head of a Super Mutie Brute clean of with a single shot from my .44. :yep:
You can get through FO3 just fine with Small Guns only, but I would suggest putting some points in explosives so you can set effective traps. ;)
(btw if you suffer from constant freezes in some indoors locations, it can be fixed. A lot of issues can be resolved with some tweaking (http://www.tweakguides.com/Fallout3_8.html).)

I haven't tried a really sneaky character in Fallout 3 with mods yet. I tried without mods though and I was having trouble. From a distance, it was easy enough to make a sneak-critical kill shot then run and hide a bit after an alert was made. Up close though, they would detect me every time. I was unable to get in melee range without being detected. Too bad, because I wanted to be all ninja and ****. This is without stealth boys. I've never actually used those because of a weird hoarding problem I have with rpg games.
Just feel like sharing this; Recently in F3, I got a really cool sneak-critical on 3 ghouls at once with a single blast from my shotgun. They all died from that spread. Put quite a smile on my face.

I have the same hoarding problem. :yep:
"I'll save it for later, when I really need it." Of course, that time never comes. :nope:
I don't have too much trouble dealing with enemies even without stealth (ie I botch my sneak-attack). Just sit around the corner and give 3 shotgun blasts to the head in VATS, puts most of them down. Wandering the Waste in daylight can be tricky though.
My most feared opponents are those frickin Sentry Bots... or Deathclaws, if they surprise me instead of the other way around. Putting down some mines often helps to soften them up and even the odds against powerfull, or a group of, enemies.
Never went the melee route. History tells us firearms prevail over swords, so who am I to argue.
Though I do like to collect Chinese Officer's swords. :D
Nice kill, don't think that ever happened for me. :hmmm: :salute:

If I can get Fallout 3 as stable as I've got Oblivion now (4 hours to CTD), then it will be a huge success! :DL
