Before even running the game for the first time I'm going to see what kind of copy protection they put on it and try and remove it or disable it. I don't want that crap polluting my computers. Someday software developers will learn that where there's a will there's always a way. Instead of investing $ in that crap put that money into the game development :arrgh!:

SteamWake
10-16-09, 11:01 AM
You sure you want to post that in an open forum read by the developers?

TheDarkWraith
10-16-09, 11:17 AM
It's to express the point of quit wasting $ on crap and put it into the game. Look at SH4 - with patch 1.4 they effectively took out the copy protection. So ALL the money and time and man-hours spent putting it in was removed. That time, money, and man-hours could have been put to better use making the game better or fixing other bugs.
Maybe you like having that crap infect your computer. I don't. It can sometimes wreak havoc on installed devices and other software on your computer. I don't like troubleshooting software problems because someone 'thinks' I need to have this or that with something I legitimately bought.
I have nothing more to say on this subject. Enjoy your new game when it comes out :yep:

Hold it there peeps.
You cant build a house without setting up the substructure. If you do so you'll be running from one problem into another.

The first 5 things ill be doing is building the substructure.

1: Go to the super market and get a month's food, water and alchohol supply.

2: Format the PC and put on only the vital software for the game to run with the latest updates.

3: Turn off cellphone.

4: Unplug the phone.

5: Lock the door, unplug the ringbell and nail a warning sign on the door.
Oh, and cover the windows with something dark. Pitch is good.

Then tell everyone im in a middle of a major project and i want to be alone.
Then i'll enjoy the game for quite some time since none is gonna disturb me.:shucks:

Interesting how many people have listed "install" as "the first ... you will do when you load up SHV for the first time?". :hmmm:

Me, I would have already installed it (hard to load it up otherwise ;)), so I guess the first thing I'll do is watch the intro movie. That should fill in 20 seconds.

Once the game finishes loading, I'll prolly stare a bit at the main menu screen for a few seconds. Having by then read all three paragraphs of the game manual (the remaining 30 pages cover Ubi copyright and the 1900 support number at $6.50 a minute), I will select the "Options" option and tweak to my desire, while being quietly chuffed that there are both malfunctions and sabotage options available.

I'll then check out the Museum, hoping to see an interface more akin to SH3's than SH4's. I will be disappointed, but not surprised, when I don't see a Bathurst Class adorning the Aussie Roster. I guess I should just be happy with the fact that there will at least be an Aussie Roster included.

Then I'll start a new Sep 1939 career and complete one patrol.

That's the first five things covered.

Then I'll exit SH5 and visit here to read all the complaints about Wolfpacks being either a) not in at all b) too arcadish or c) too few.

Then I'll spend the next <insert lifespan of game here> modding/testing and essentially doing everything *but* playing the game! First (personal) mod will be to remove the intro movie.

5. Enjoy (I hope) during hours/days/months...

i wont even open a file for at least a month and no mods until after patch #1 at least

first thing is to get bored with the single missions for fast action then a few patrols, maybe create a few missions but modding i have learned is a waste of time until at least the 3rd patch because each patch makes your mods not work or become no longer needed.

once i start modding then i will disect everything in the game but until then im not looking under the hood, let the girl keep her dress on :D

Assuming i buy it before it hits the bargin bin:

1.) D/L latest patch. I imagine that might be numbered 1.4 or 1.5
2.) Watch intro
3.) Explore and examine all menu options
4.) Try the sub school to see what all the hub bub is about with the UI and rendered interior
5.) Sit back with a cup of coffee (or a 6 pack of beer), and carefully examine the file structure at a liesurely pace out of curiosity.
6.) Change the command hotkeys to that of SH3's layout of feasible. (did the same with SH4, its hard to change up after so many years of mashing the same hotkeys)
7.) One of three things will happen at this point:

A. I D/L the latest mod and enjoy someone elses hard work for a change. (I still say GWX will reappear in some form. Modding is an addiction, just like any other)

b. I end up being happy with the stock unmodded game. ( :haha: )

c. I end up on the endless modding loop again in some shape or form. I have no intention of it, but i know modding is addictive, and if you have an idea of what your doing, once you start cracking the files open, your kinda screwed.
