First destroyer

Nailed my first destroyer the other night! I've been playing for about 5 years now. I usually just avoid wasting a torp on them. This one was escorting a merchie I had just torped. They were moving slow, about 2 knots so I was able to maneauver submerged (and running quiet) to a good attack angle. First torp hit the bow, second missed, I let my daughter shoot the third to sink it. Surfaced and finished off the merchie with the deck gun.
I have to thank Webster for his mod to fix ships acceleration and manuver. I'm sure I would've missed otherwise.

Good job..

Biggesst issue I have with shooting at DD's is that 90% of the time they jump to flank speed and avoid the first shot forcing you to fan out two or three shots just to have any kind of chance.

Once in a while you catch one napping like you did and then 'doink' "torpedoe was a dud sir" :doh:

Just the other night I attacked a DD out of 6 torpedoes fired 4 duds and two misses :damn:

After that we just went deep and sailed away shaking our heads.

That's what usually happens to me. I'll try to catch one napping, throw torps at him and then watch him dodge them all. Its not worth the hassle of waking him up and then having him look for you. You end up losing a couple of torpedoes and having to hide from the detroyer who was just ignoring you a few seconds ago.
But this time the stars were aligned....
