Sent out on my first deep Atlantic patrol to AK23. Just as I arrive I spot A convoy nearby on the map. The sun is just setting and I slip on in for a visit.
As a cruise up off the front port side decks awash 45 degrees angled right between the front and side escorts I look into my binoculars. Seven rows full of the fattest juiciest Tankers and Cargo's you have ever seen.

Okay escorts getting close and it isnt quite dark yet. Time to slip under the smooth as glass waves and go all quite and see if I have the key to the house. Damit the lead escorts swinging my way. He hasnt picked me up he's just swinging my direction. I go deep to 80 meters and keep the RPMs at 50 1 Knot indicated. The destroyers going by and is at my 270 degrees Pull to periscope depth. "Sir they are pinging us!" Verdamt! I was to anxious almost made it. Scope depth Flank speed maybe we can get some shots into the convoy and at a 45 degree I should get some hits.

Tubes one through four let loose as I set the Gyros manually for a decent spread. Destroyer closing! Quick turn right 90 so I can let my to tail torps loose! Tubes Five and Six fired blind into the convoy now almost parralel with to rows in front of me and five behind! Dive 125 meters.
The convoys over me know when I hear and Impact followed by two more.

Go deep and quite and slip out the back, Get some close calls but nothing hits home on my boat by a single Polish destroyer. After 5 hours he gives up.

I surface and reload everything and begin a pursuit course. I find a factory whaling ship left behind and sitting vary low in the water. Deck guns come into play at 1 mile and within 4 rounds she heading to the bottom.
Ship sighted! I head north at flank speed as two escorts show up and start shooting flairs looking for me but I slip by to the north already several miles from where the pair are looking.

Convoy sighted to my south east on a parallel course and Im about to go back in!

After 12 hours I need a break, So I figured I would tell my situation.
I will let you know the outcome!:salute:

Again I circled the convoy and came in at the front port gap between the escorts. This time I got all the way in and centered myself in the convoy.
I picked out some distant targets in the front and after releasing 4 torps there I let out the back two at a couple of freighters just passing at 300 meters.

The back Torpedo's hit first and I got one each into a pair of 8 ton freighters.
The Front four hit two each into a pair of heavy tankers!:yeah: They went down immediatly!

Unfortunately the back pair managed to stay afloat with one listing till the deck touched water and leveling out and the front freighter sinking nose first and just as she was about to start plowing water they got her stabilized.:nope:
Hours of getting pounded but again nothing came close enough to do any damage and in fact most of the time they were just dropping in patterns all over the area.

I am tired and I think its time I disengage even know the two are wounded I cant save game near them:damn: So I gotta throw the fishes back.

Anyway 2 heavy tankers at 10k each and a whaling ship at 12k.
Ill take it. Damnit if I had more time I would go back in!

PART TWO: The Chess match

The boat is at 159 meters. Tubes 2 through 4 are completely destroyed. The hull creeks under the intense pressure and for the last three hours my crew has been hastily repairing the GBH passive listening system and shoring up the water leaks in the bow. The pumps work overtime to contain the flooding meanwhile a Black Swan class Captain has been trying to get his name in the papers. Fortunatly his two Captain class Corvette kammerades had to leave and attend to the flock.

Several hours earlier....

Message received herr Kaleun. "Alright listen up! BDU reports a large convoy 65 kilometers west at a speed of 8 knots and a course of 35. Everybody be prepared for intercept within the next 2 hours."

The lookout scan the early dusk sky and soon spot the fat crowd to the South West.

A bit later......
"Were in. Escorts moving away on both sides. (Cue Das Boot Action Music)
"Course 120 keep RPMs at 80."
The Pariscope breaks the surface and scans the surroundings. "Their all around us!" "This will be easier than shooting windows with a sling shot"

"There that one in the distance, It looks like a large whaling ship. Set depth for 8 meters, Range 600 meters, speed 8 knots, bearing 10 degrees, AOB 104. Los!"
As the First eel hisses as it propells itself from the tube the scope spies more targets.

"340 degrees straight running fast at a depth of 10 meters, Tube two LOS!"

Quickly and surely I scan and select individual targets for my fast eels to rip into.

"Impact...............Torpedo two Impact....... another impact!!

Explosions and concussions railed through the night sky as one torpedo after another found the weak and frail sides of its victims.

A medium merchant 300 meters off my stern erupted into flames as violent explosion rocked the ship and sent her under in a matter of minutes. The large whaling ship turned out to be a medium tanker but it to followed the merchants fate. Another torpedo hit the ship closest to my stern in the propeller and left it dead in the water. as i slipped in between the ships in the convoy trying to sneak out the least protected side I scanned the horizon only to notice too late 3 escorts bearing down on me.

"Crash dive! Aus Kraft!" less than a minute later the first DC attack straddled my bow and the pressure cracked my hull. Tubes 2 through 4 destroyed but soon the GBH was working and the leaks were plugged, It was time for the ultimate game of Chess with our only goal to survive long enough to avoid the Tommy's from calling check mate!

Leveling out at 120 the Damage control teams worked feverishly to contain the flooding. As ship after ship drove us deeper and deeper with their ash can's dropping on us like rain from the heavens. We slipped through their attacks by the smallest margins. My crew all had a look that was a mix of stern resolution and out right panic.

The creaking pressure hull we just repaired was not making anybody feel any more comfortable but their is not much time to ponder your thoughts on it as the sounds of that destermined black swan above us kicking his props into high gear to make yet another run on us keeps everybody focused on the now, not the what will be. For now we will just creep in the abyss and keep our noise down all while keeping our eyes up.

Alles ist gut!:woot:

I bored the black swan to death and then torpedoed the stranded 10 ton freighter then headed home with a total of 65 thousand tons this patrol.

Its March 7th and I am at 495k tons career total with all settings real except map updates and external view.

Next career will be full real!...And short, cause I always die in that situation.
