Hi all I have SHIV 1.5, and am running Werner's NSM mod.

I have the damage settings turned up full, and notice that sometimes a hole appears and some times it doesn't. I think I read another post that said the torp needed to defeat the ships armour for a hole to be visible, is this correct ?

My other question is on the amount of torps required to sink a DD, today I hit a Akizuki with 1 torp and though damaged she kept going, I found 2 did the trick of sinking the DD's. I would have expected 1 torp in to a vessel under 5000 tons would have done fatal damage, was this the historical fact ?.

4/5 times, it only takes one torp to end a destroyer for me. Other times they are crippled or severly slowed down.

I believe it depends on where they get hit as with other ships in the sim, If you use an MK14 on a dead on bow shot set to shallow, influence, the torpedo will usually run under they keel then explode, sometimes breaking her in half. Then again I had one that took three torpedoes :nope: must have been one heck of a damage control team on her.

Not sure about the damage effect, it may have to do with the modding.

The holes in the ship are just eye candy. A hit without a hole is just as good.

Mod's can change damage zones and how ships sink. I imagine NSM reflects what you're seeing.

Eye candy is next to useless. It tells you very little about how damaged your target really is. I've sunk many dozens of targets that didn't sport any eye candy holes at all.

So far as I can determine there is very little relationship between holes, smoke, flames, etc and actual game damage. It's just pretty stuff to look at.

Not so sure about flames. Seems like to me that a ship being engulfed in flames is a good indicator that she is probably going down.

Now if its a tiney flame on the bow she might deserve another shot.

Have to agree about the flames. More flames more damage and chance of secondary explosions, if they go out it seems damage control has a good handle on keeping her afloat, even in rough seas, which is frustrating to watch waves rush over the ship.
