The Seekuh (Sea Cow) Type IX

So I finally made the jump from my trusty and loved Type VIIB to the Seekuh type IXB. This pig is an ASW destroyers best friend! I had just left port in Germany and started to get pinged, Upon further investigation it was just an American destroyer testing his equipment out in New York harbor!:rotfl2:

All jokes aside I can see why the German crews nicknamed this beast sea cow.:ahoy:

It takes forever to get this pig under and its best in hostile territory to run decks awash just to speed up the dive time a bit.

You should never go anywhere where you cannot dive friggen deep! Cause ASDIC will own this giant the whole time and the destroyers will ride you like a show pony.:ping: So go deep, be patiant and have a great staff of repair people cause they should be busy!

But its not all negatives. You have tons more Torps and almost get bored before you can run out.:arrgh!:

Its a bit faster than the type VII on the surface. Has superior range by a bit.

This boat should do well in the deep Atlantic, But stay away from coastal areas.

In retrospect I should have grabbed a type VIIC but I am learning to like the IX's strengths despite so many deadly weaknesses.

Well my type VII tactics failed me and after a loooooooooooooong mission
I intercepted a medium freighter. I moved in to attack and out of nowhere in terrible weather a destroyer shows up and forces me under.

I think...Its just one Zerstorer, No problem even in a type IX this bad weather should allow me to escape. Long story short my magnetic personality drew them depth charges to me like turd to a toilet. It was over before I could palm my forehead in disbelief and utter whaaaaaaaaa.

U-boat became U-sink! whole front half flooded repair crew died fighting.:salute:

IX = Drumbeat and convoy decimation.

Trade up to the D2 when you can and head to the Indian Ocean for fun times.

Interestingly, the IX is the ONLY boat I have ever finished the war in. I guess you tend to be more cautious.

It was later that i shifted my attention to the Type2 or VIIB.

Type IX = Visit far off exotic places and watch the girls go for your extra renown when you return to base.

I don't really mind that it's more easily detected.

In a type VII I often want destroyers to have a go at me already; it's easier to line up a shot that way. Just minding their own business they still prevent me from doing things I'd rather do than playing with destroyers, i.e. blowing up juicier targets without wasting any eels.

What I dislike about the type IX is their low submerged speed and lack of agility, a real liability in combat against things that fight back. Having 2 astern tubes and therefore a choice in which torpedos to use is not sufficient compensation.
If I end up using more torpedos to kill destroyers because I fear them more and have a harder time losing them, I do not actually benefit from the bigger loadout.

Whether it's better to have good antiaircraft weaponry or good diving times depends on the exact stage of the war, but quite often I'd prefer the latter.

All in all, I really like the VIIB. Once the latest version of the type IX comes available I feel tempted to change to it, but I usually end up regretting that decision.
