I have read some of the posts regarding problems with the Trigger Maru mod and have tried some fixes, but no luck.
I have SH4 1.4 and downloaded Trigger Maru OverHaul 17.7. When I try and load the game it gets to about 80-90% and then crashes with this message always the first among many to flash.
"data/menu/data/black80.tga not found"
I have deleted and reinstalled the mod, I have installed DX 9 from the CD and still no luck, same message.
It seems like a corrupted file, but I have reinstalled it a few times still no luck. I have read where the problem is the movie and I should delete it, but where is the movie file?
Any help would be appreciated.

I don't think TMO 1.7 is compatible with SH4 ver. 1.4. I'm pretty sure you need to upgrade to SH4 ver. 1.5 to run any of the later versions of TMO.

That's correct :yep:
I think this version works with 1.4. See this thread (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=155830&highlight=1.4+Trigger+Maru)

UPDATE:
Have tried it after deleting the intro movie file and still get the same error. I have uninstalled the game and reinstalled in this order
SH4 game
1.40 patch
JSGME mod add-on
Trigger Maru OH 1.7z
same errors. All starting with the missine .tga file. I have found a black50.tga file in the original version but no black80.tga file With missing files it would seem to be a corrupt file issue, has anyone else had a bad file d/l of Trigger Maru 1.7z lately?
TMO 1.7 only works with SH4 patched to 1.5.
You are running SH1.4 so need TM 1.6.
See the link in Reallydeadpoets post for how to get it :DL

Went with 1.63 TMO and I can play after I get rid of all the error messages with Menu ID missing. I'm assuming that the patches have left some holes that may be filled in by other patches. If I am using TMO 1.63 is there another patch that will fill any possible holes and erase the error messages?
P.S. Going now to re-install SH4 using the instructions on the forums. Will see if that helps.

Sigh.
I've updated video drivers, unistalled the game, deleted the sh4 folder in the documents section and re-installed the game.
I use the Generic Mod Enabler to load, in order, TMO 1.6, 1.63 patch, gmx graphics fix and a merchants skin add on. It loads, but when I put to sea I get Menu id missing messages. I click through those and set sail, making my way through the torpedo tutorial, yet when I click on the attack map button the game crashes. It crashed the same way without the merchant skins.
I am out of ideas

Cost me $9.99 but the problem is fixed.
Even using the RFB mod I was still crashing with missing data fiiles and MENU ID's. So, I finally just bought the U Boat Missions, installed it and addd the Trigger Maru 17 mod. Works great now. Now I just have to figure out how to survive a depth charge attack. I've been 165 ft under the sea for two hours now while this DD pounds on me. I've tried sitting still, inching away at 1/3 speeed and evasive manuevers when the depth charges drop, it's still on me. Having a blast!
The lights are all out (the better to see through the periscope) And the SS Permit-178 has sunk5500 tons of merchant shipping as of this, her second patrol. The first patrol I nabbed an 1800 ton merchant outside of Urukawa. I needed to surface after I screwed up my manual targeting (Bad AOB guesses caused my fish to trail behind the ship) The second I sank with three torps, a 4500 ton Kasgisa Maru merchant in the Southeast China Sea.
165ft? Go deeper!
Your depth gauge has two faces. One goes down to 165ft. The other goes down to 400 or 600ft (depending on which sub you are in).
To switch between the two click on the little rectangle beneath the gauge.
The red line on the deep depth gauge is your test depth. You can go at least 100ft deeper than that.
And don't forget to turn on silent running.
Glad you got it working by the way :DL

If you play TMO you have a deep dive setting icon. That one will take you as deep as you want. Just don't forget you've hit it as you must manually stop the dive or it will just keep taking you down.,,,to death

And you can usually go 2/3 ahead and they'll not hear you. Makes a big difference in escaping their ever-increasing search circle.
Glad you're out there. Raising a glass to you at this very moment.
