Since i haven't been playing for very long i'm still discovering content. this crew ability is very cool.

It allows a greater frequency of friendly contacts on the map, and it also allows you to pick up, with much greater frequency, the enemy contacts. hell, it's almost like having a a surface radar with super long range, becasue the radio man tracks positions of mutliple enemy formations all over the map.

Maybe, but a Torpedoman cant pick up the Super Bowl at patrol depth and broadcast it on Crews Mess. :O:

It's version 1.5 UBM with minor mods, so regular 1.5 UBM should do the same thing. I'm sure there are more abilities like this one. post cool ones you find with explainations of what they do in the game if you could. i found another one called sharp shooter and torpedo expert. Torpedo expert tweaks ur fish to make them go faster, farther, and go off with a bigger bang. Sharpshooter (i think that's what it's called) is a deck gun ability that increases rate of fire and damage and precision. It has an hour cooldown but lasts five minutes when you activate it. it's pretty cool too.

There's a whole mess of them. Just be sure to toss the one that add's moonshine to your torpedo to increase torp speed...things go faster than rockets, silly and unrealistic.

I keep some, the radioman is a fair game as subs got repeated contact reports since we knew the japanese code. The medic is reasonable, the lookout with bat eyes, ect...

But he CAN target the Admiral's flagship until he hands over the tickets to the game. :arrgh!:

I like the slick talker one that get's the hottest ladies for his shipmates in any Australian port.

Perth boats FTW!

He must be the reason there are about 40 girls at one pier in Surabaya.

Yeah, I had one of those guys. With precise and unerring accuracy he picked out the USS Essex as a nice juicy target, getting me sent to the brig for the rest of the war on hard labor, bread and water.

Radio not Radar RR...

ITs time to move on man.. put the essex behind you.

Reminds me of the movie "Airplane" ... "Over Macho Grande?" "No I'll never get over Macho Grande" :rotfl2:

Anyhow back on topic, I dont recall having a radioman before but doesent mean I havent had one. Its one of those PA's you dont really pay much attention to.

I mean "Triangulated by a radio transmission" :o uhhh pretty sure that is not in the game.

I might try an experiment where I sit in one spot near the straights and blast away on the radio and see what pops up. :smug:

Steamwake i thought the same thing, until i realized the radioman ability did something that wasn't in the description. if you're on your main map, the red enemy contacts just blossom all over the place within a certain radius of the boat, which gives you a huge advantage on the intercept. you can pick an choose more easily what you wish to go after, and also manuever around convoys so as to not interupt your transit to another specific location. So far the radioman and the deck gun sharpshooter ones are my favorites.
On a side note, can anyone point me in the direction of a comprehensive description of crew attributes and/or crew building?

Another ability for those looking for descriptions as well: This one seems to give you a boost of 1 knt over what you set as your speed. So if you set 10knts you get 11knts

Another important thing many newer players forget, is some SA men work just by being in the compartment, others only work for a time limit when you go to the SA icon and activate them. You don't activate them they don't work, so use those men when needed and watch time limits for them

a note on the activation SAs: if you have too many SAs and then all of a sudden get a toggle SA (Special Ability), your toggle switch will be obscured by the UI and you won't be able to trip it. Is there a way to maybe reorganize the crew so you get the toggle ability further to the left in the UI? I eneded up dumping SA crew to get the togle ability available again.

small note on the engines expert SA: I'm about 90% sure the ability stacks. Meaning there is a cumulative bonus to your speed from multiple Engine Experts.

sometimes specialized men gets a new specialization , but not always, they have the same of the first. it's a problem take a watchman specialied in radar into radio room?
