I have this interest in historical battles and recounts about battles. In particular I'm interested in maps about interesting battles, could be small unit skirmishes or bigger scraps. I know that there are probably plenty around the Internet accompanying stories about battles but I'm looking for either a bigger source of battle maps that show the course of a battle or really good maps about individual battles.
There could be historical background supporting the battle maps and the maps could be from any war, don't have to be from necessarily about WW 2. I'm also very interested in the Vietnam war or any somewhat big conflicts. Could be about land or sea or air battles.
I just found this source (https://www.benning.army.mil/monographs/content/maps/index.htm) that has some pretty nice battle maps.

Yea I wondered about that. It's US military so the question is...do you trust them? I put yes and nothing happened, at least so far.

I have a 10 book series at home about military history from late medieval to WW1. There are also contains some battle maps, though it's all about land combat and nothing naval. I just don't know whether it's still available, and it's in German (don't know about other languages). If you like I can dig the title up for you.

Sounds interesting, you don't have to dig up the title but if it's not a problem I wouldn't mind hearing it.

It's "Heerwesen der Neuzeit".
Here's a link to Amazon:
http://www.amazon.de/Heerwesen-Neuzeit-Bde-Georg-Ortenburg/dp/3763758135/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1254600916&sr=8-1
Only problem is, it's 149,95 € :o I guess I got it for 20€ back then, but it was a special edition.

Looks very interesting. And it's true, good military themed books can be sometimes found on a bargain.
maybe not a big source but... http://users.telenet.be/stalingrad/maps/map_index.htm

Thanks, very interesting looking maps there.
I've found a couple of 'classic' Roman era battles from the Discovery - website, Cannae and Pharsalus.

These give a pretty good graphical representation of the battle so that even a layman can understand what happened. Although with the older battles it's difficult to know exactly what happened and what was just fiction added by the historians at the time.
