View Full Version : If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you go?

If you had the opportunity and the means to do it, where would you live?

I'm not talking about vacation spots. Not some little island in the Bahamas to retire on. But seriously, where would you relocate to and why? Would you stay where you are?

I would stay where I am. Love it here. :yep:

I would buy a piper cub

http://markwethli.typepad.com/photos/uncategorized/2008/07/24/pipercub.jpg

and a Stearman

http://www.airborne-aviation.com.au/joyflight/stearman2.jpg

throw in a custom log home

http://www.nahb.org/assets/images/Log%20Home.jpg

and a nice hangar

http://www.alamodoorsystems.com/products/Product%20Detail/4/Bi-foldHangarDoor_1231367458.jpg

And i would put them all on a private grass strip surrounded by wooded acreage

http://www.tontobasinrealestate.com/Property/default_files/NEW_runway.jpg

located in the piny woods of East Texas about 20-30 minutes drive in any direction to the nearest sign of civilization.

why?

It would only be my family, my dog, myself, a few howling coyotes and a million stars every night.

No traffic, no noise, no nosy neighbors, no headaches that i didnt create for myself.

I dunno why, but I always see myself living in one of those monotone apartments in New York City, with floor to ceiling glass windows....and drapes:oops::rotfl2:

But If I got the chance to I'd live life out like a mountain man, living in a cottage in northeastern U.S. with nothing but a muzzle-loader, bowie knife, and a trusty German Shepard

Either some place in Bavaria, in the green, a small farm or blockhouse with nearby forests and meadows and mountains and as few people around as possible, or, more likely nowadays, a "Ganghaus" in my beloved Lübeck - no way to live "gemütlicher" than there.

http://www.deutschland-panorama.de/staedte/luebeck/ps/1_182_03.php

(panorama pic, click and hold to move perspective)

The tourism bureau advertises with the fact that in Lübeck there is more historic buildings and historic architecture from the 13th-15th century than in all other old cities in Northern Germany alltogether. That's for me, since modern city design and modern architecture is not my thing. The so-called Gänge (corridors) are very typical for Lübeck. These corridors are tight and narrow and branch off from the main streets, where they break through the house fronts in often extremely small, tight, low gates. The Ganghäuser ("Corridor houses") houses are very small, often consist of only one room per floor, meaning they are essentially two or three rooms put one over the other. By description this may sound terrible, but if you have seen these places from inside and lived there (I have spend christmas holidays in several different ones), you know how gemütlich they are. Plus the charming old town of Lübeck, finding a perfect balance between old houses and modern city life in the centre of the old town, plenty of harbour pubs and bistros, the old town is an island, adding to the somewhat isolationist, protected character of the place. That's what i call living quality.

There are also bigger houses, of course, and villas in more modern parts of the city around the oldtown, in very idyllic places at the two rivers embracing the old town. When I was a small boy, we lived there for several years.

Christmas night in the oldtown is something you would not forget, in a very narrow place there are five churches with seven towers, all of them equippped with extremely well-sounding bells, let the air vibrate in all the oldtown, when you walk at night while the bells are ringing, you feel the sound giving a gentle massage to all your body, filling your inside with a sound as if made of accustic gold. I still spend christmas with my parents there, occasionally.

Upstate Maine is my choice and I hope, my eventual destination. I have the land already, now i just need to build the house. I haven't been everywhere in the world but of all the places I have Northern New England is my clear favorite.

On balance I'm going to have to side with Sgt. Potato here, safety is paramount.

The Himalayas mountains - away from modern technology go back to the hunter gather days and live in some log house depending on nothing but the basics. Maybe go in search of a yeti when bored or hang out with the Tibetan monks :yep: Technology is turning man into a slosh IMHO. I was in WoW last night some 15/16 yr olds in our guild were chatting away one asks what you doing later he replies oh might go download some porn "Wow dude your really cool so you going to go DL some porn", being an officer in the guild i decided to kick him for being a retarded dickhe*d.

technology is a good tool for us but its turning man into a couch potato with series online addictions. Man when i was 15 i was out hunting rabbits. Now they in front of pc's arguing with each other on the internet while waiting for their porn to dl :haha: :shifty:

A comfortable hut on a scarcely populated island in the middle of the Pacific, with 2 palm trees nearby, full of coconuts and a hammock in between.

I'd be very content just wandering around, watching the surf from my hammock and diving the coral reefs.

:sunny:

Though a yacht and a seaplane would be nice, to get back to civilization every now and then. :hmmm:

No, no, then you're allowing them to spy on you with their satellites and cameras and listening devices in the pine trees. What you need to do is keep moving, never stay in one place for more than a week, in densly populated regions, so they can't find you.

And you can eat Chinese food everyday!

Second. The Lesbos in Greek Mythology weren't exactly keen on having men in their midst... neither were the Amazonians.
