View Full Version : Pre-War Campaign Start?

Sorry to take this up separate from the wish-list, but...

How many of us would like to start german campaign on 19th Aug. 1939? I think besides GW for III and TM (or was it RSRD) for IV pre-war starts has been impossible before. At least once I would like to take my boat to the waiting positions...

Also, is there anyone else who would like to have free choice for sailing date? I liked SHIII Cmdr ability to edit days-in-port. No need for manual editing or accepting dull "always 14 + repair + upgrading days method". And you can't tell the PC, "Ok, we had quite a trip, so we would like to have one extra week just for recreation...Sir!"

Maybe the whole "days-in-port" -system could have a new build up, with the first possible sailing day after refit and repairs displayed on the screen - and then the player could alter the date forward to his liking?

You mean you want sale in to a British port and camp your self at 90 degree angle from a prize Battleship?.. Then as soon as hostitlitied are declared... its "Whoops butter fingers!" :D

Up to you but this would be very 'gamey' indeed.

1) In reality the Brits would never have allowed a U-boat (of any Nation) to sail in to her waters unchallenged - Not in '39 or '38, NOT EVER!
It would be a case of "Oi wtf are you doing here??" at the very least!
(and i dont imagine the response ...."errr business trip?" will convince them to back off either :haha:)

2) Also due to the way things work in SH - I expect the very SECOND war is declared, every projectile weapon in the vicinity will light you up,
before you can say "LOS!"

Wasent it so that you could start pre-war in sh-3?

Variable start day with new careers would be good - SH3 always started new careers on the first of the month. Being able to start anytime during the month would offer more flexibility (ie sail mid-August 1939 as a few boats did).

Variable days in port based on the boat type, repairs required and year (a la SH3Cmdr) would also add value. I know Beery analysed actual war patrols and determined that as the war progressed, time in port increased (for obvious reasons). From potentially 5 or so days in 1939 for a Type II up to 65 days in 1945 for a Type IX. This variation is what SH3Cmdr models via the "Randomised days in port" option.

Yes but only a day or two, not enough time to make in to hostile waters unless you mod your boat to travel at 200 knots :)

I for once would like the OPTION to have to Earn my Kptlt to get a U-boot.

Not the easy lame renoun (even when modded) ones in SH3 & SH4.

You don't pass like they had to, You don't get a boat.

Just have this as a Realism Option.

People who would do that are the same people that hit the same BB in the same port for months on end anyways. For people who like to play realistically, being able to make your way to assumed shipping routes before the start of hostilities, as some boats did in the war, would be a nice feature.

Why leave out realistic options because of people who will play a "gamey" style anyways?

What ! Not clever enough to earn a U-Boot if it's on the difficult side. :haha:

This would be a simple and realistic option.

Yeah that would be good. Make you feel as if you've earnt the right to be giving the orders!

Am reminded on the first time I tried to navigate out of lorient in SH3 and ended up sinking the boat by repeatedly ramming the dock wall...

I thought something was wrong with the game......*sigh*:nope:

Mine is the best idea that the Dev's can also do. So there. :smug: :haha:

Why don't you just ask the Devs to mod in a virtual quarter slot for your Arcade Realism. :haha:
