Kaleuns,
whilst enjoying the greatest WW2 Simulation in existence (IMHO), what music do you listen to?
Are you a "total realism" nut ie the gramophone with German U-Boot songs, or are you a little like me and play "external" music?
My current selection is Sonata Arctica, wonderful Finnish Melodic Power Metal, to get my crew's blood pumping! :salute:

rather partial to a bit of Bob Dylan while on patrol, not exactly historical but it works for me.

I like to listen to the Jaws theme song, especially when getting ready to attack a convoy :arrgh!:

Im a realism nut - so dont play any music whilst attacking Allied ships. I do play U-boat tracks off the gramophone once I've sunk ships. My current favorite is Das Boot version of "Long way to Tipperary", or "Afrika Korp":arrgh!:

"Doo doo doo do do do dododo
it's foolish but it's fun"

:rotfl2:Sorry, couldn't resist.

I like to sail back into port after a patrol listening to the gramophone rather than while sinking allied shipping. I don't listen to any non war era music while in game. I like the oldies immersion factor.

The theme from Wolf3D is "Horst-Wessel-Lied". The music for 'Das Boot' was written by Klaus Doldinger (also available on CD).

I'm currently downloading jimbuna's grammophone track. I usually have the music switched off, but otherwise it's only stuff from that era. I like that kind of music anyway :DL

Nothing while attacking. While friggin' around in search of convoys I like to listen to classic music, Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, Tchaikowsky, etc, but also sometimes the classic grammpophone tunes mentioned by other guys here,

Whenever I hear now "Das Oberkommando der Wehrmacht gibt bekannt ..." from Jim's tunes, I start to shout "AUSSCHALTEN!!" like the LI in Das Boot and toss my notebook over.

Then I go outside, have a smoke and continue playing.

Yep, period music for me too. I just have this problem that everytime I'm doing a sneaky nighttime surface attack the Ride of the Valkyries comes up and I get this urge to go to maximum speed and pretend I'm a schnellboot :arrgh!:

My gramophone folder is crammed with my collection of The Goon Show. So when I'm hunting I could be hearing anything from the Ying Tong Song to Bluebottle and Eccles having a conversation about the time written on a piece of paper!

Nothing on patrol. Following a patrol it's straight to Sřs Fenger. It's nice to hear that beautiful voice after a few days of simming.

have found these songs at youtube.
if there are no problems with copy-rights i'd like to copy them into my grammophone-file. mostly from the 30s - they are great!

Period music, radio reports from the era (love Churchs War Radio). I do love a bit of Glen Miller on the down time, and 'People will say we're in love' is another nice one.
I did once leave the gramophone running once whilst on a surface deck gun attack on a merchant...

It sunk to the strains of 'Rule Britannia' :-?

No background music, ever. I threw it all out. I listen to the gramaphone while cruising, but as soon as I see a ship it goes off.

The first 6 months of 1942 I listen to the sound of beating drums!!! :rotfl2:

I do not listen to any music it interferes with my concentration. I play 100% DID and that means I play all the crew so do not want distractions.

I would have to think a real kaleun would not yell strike up the band we're going in but hey what ever floats your boat or maybe sinks your ship!!!

When sinking ships nothing. But otherwise during duller parts I used to listen to the gramophone, I had some music packs there. Haven't played SH3 for a while but the song that I mostly remember from the gramophone and grew to like was "Scotland the brave". Weird really, never been much of a fan of bagpipes.

no music during attack. maybe just the radio speaking softly in the background - adds a kind of ambience. but i think Rina Ketty 'J'attendrai' is my favorite...

Up until "Ship Spotted" I have the Gramophone on nearly all the time - a mixture of "Charlie and His Orchestra" (German propaganda), German Military Marches and German songs of the period. Would have more - but run outta room on my HDD with all the mods, music, skins et al!

I saw a most unusual movie the other day.
The soundtrack was not done by Hans Zimmer and Samuel L Jackson was not in it.

Now that is shocking!! :rotfl2:

To be honest I just have classical music on when on patrol. I did forget to turn it off once though while dealing with two steamers.

Seemed a bit surreal to see them both slide gently beneath the waves to the sound of 'Ode to Joy'.......

I just got Glenn Miller's album the Lost Recordings. 2 hours of Glenn Miller and German singing guests. Good stuff. Probably better just for navigating tho.

Don't listen to it while attacking, just navigation. Right before I dive, and while I'm diving in a T-Storm, there is a song that goes, "My momma done told me, that I was a mean man." and another that goes "Keeps raining all the time."

Likewise, I don't actually listen to anything while attacking as I tend to roleplay my use of the gramophone. When I do listen to it however, I use one of jimbuna's gramophone packs (I've only got the first so far and am considering checking out more, it's that good).

Terragon

I might just download the pack. Always nice to have more tunes.

So long as it's period music, there is something strange about being in a U-Boat and listening to "Hey Joe" by Jimi Hendrix.

Panser
01-03-10, 05:33 PM
As far as I can tell they are all period, or at least appropriate style.

It's hardly period, but "Reise, Reise" by Rammstein would be quite fitting :03:

I don't listen to DSO while playing, but a damn fine choice nonetheless.

I listen to some classical, marches (mostly german), and movie scores while playing. Normally I turn the gramophone off while attacking, and always if escaping a warship.

I most often listen to Swing Jazz or nothing at all.

Both cause im a fan of swing music, and an added bonus of being un-anachronistic, so it fits very well into the WW2 background.

I don't listen to music if im encountering heavily escorted ships who pose a great danger and difficulty, otherwise i usually have music on.

It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing :DL
