Ok,

So I managed to have my Acer laptop repaired insisting on Vista 32, installed SH3 and it works.

So, started a career and have been playing all weekend. It's early 1942 in my career. Long story short, I attacked a massive convoy of over 20 ships abou 300 km off the coast of Ireland that protected by two Flower Corvettes. I managed to sink three cargo ships (I always go after the big ships in these situations) and evade the Flower Corvettes. Then, I set up another attack but the Flower Corvettes homed in on me after I fired two torpedoes. I was depth charged and suffered terrible damage. Watch tower, FLAK, deck gun, stern dive planes and sonar all destroyed. My compressor was also destroyed and I have severe flooding. My damage control team immediately took care of it but I couldn't not prevent my submarine from descending. The moment I passed 200 m I closed my eyes and thought that this is it. But to my amazement my submarine was still intact. I went down all the way to 503 meters and that's when I got flooding under control. The convoy was still above me and I was in no shape to fight or evade the escorts so I waited it out until they were gone. Sonar and hydrophone are damaged beyond repair but I order an emergency ballast blow - nothing happens. I give speed commands and nothing happens. My boat doesn't move. Rudder controls are functional but my commands don't seem to work. I'm basically stuck at 503 meters and can't move or blow ballast.

WHAT HAPPENED? WHAT IS WRONG HERE?

Is this a bug with the game or something? Because at 503 m I should have been crushed. Incidentally that was the bottom of that part of the ocean. My submarine was sitting on the ocean bed totally immobile.

You are dead ... you cannot do anything right now.

Answers will come, concerning your question.

What kind of supermod do you use?

I know when you go past a certain depth (500m i think) the game just stops letting you issue commands, in theory you shouldnt be able to reach this cutoff depth without actually destroying your sub, its possible either your realism settings or any mod your using had screwed with the subs crush depth to allow you to get to 500m in the first place...

i have had this happen to me many moons ago. i think its a sh3 bug. one idea is to forget it. if you have a previous saved game go to that and this will delete the nuisance sinking saved-game.

hope this helps

It happened once or twice to me... a bit disturbing, to say the least. Nothing to do but reload.

Or, if you're into immersion...

Lock yourself in the room with only the rations you would had on-hand at the time, including Becks beer, and shut off the lights. Dee how long you can last in that locked, dark room. Once you've had enough, delete the career. :haha:

:D

Thanks for the fun replies! I started the mission over again. It's a deep Atlantic patrol mission and there are a lot of convoys passing near my assigned grid. Should make for some juicy targets!

By the way, a question about neutral shipping. The US is not neutral anymore in my career but prior to that, I refrained from sinking neutral ships even if they were blatantly transporting tanks and other war goods on their decks. After awhile I symbolically shot at the cargo on their decks with my deck gun / FLAK. It made me "feel better" that although this ship will reach its destination, a hefty portion of its cargo won't.

Can I sink these neutral ships carrying war goods?

I know I'll get negative points but man, they're blatantly transporting stuff across the Atlantic that will be used to endanger German lives! Man, I'm sounding like a real U-Boat captain! haha :D

The decision is entirely yours.....if it makes you feel better and you don't mind the negative renown or the rougue status for 24 hours, go ahead.

Politely ask them to toss their war materiel over the side. Or, if you prefer, maybe they'd stack it nicely on the fantail for you to bast with your deck gun, or tow it on a line and you can sink the contraband with a steam-powered torpedo. :DL

That way you get some tonnage and they sail home all the same.
