Having come from the Atlantic where I became fairly competant with the U-Boat TDC, hitting targets in SH4 was a major exercise in frustration and so it sat unused on my hard drive for quite some time. However, determined to give it its due and after installing TMO 1.7 and RSRD tried out an S-Boat from Manila. This time however I invested some effort into learning the tricks of the trade in the Pacific and it has paid off in a big way thanks to the shooting tutorials and aids provided by the skippers here.

S-39 1st Patrol - saw 1 minesweeper TF, made no attacks and sank nothing.

S-39 2nd Patrol - Naka CL and 2 freighters for 20.000 tons (all tonnages rounded).

S-39 3rd Patrol - 3 freighters for 21,000 tons.

Moved to Brisbane and gave up my trusty S-39 for Seawolf which was a mistake in hindsight but still the hits just keep on coming.

Seawolf 1st patrol to date 3 freighters for 16,000. One damaged.

Not great numbers compared to some perhaps but why I really wanted to post this was to say thanks to those who advocate the alternate targeting methods that in my experiance have proved themselves. All my kills in S-39 were using the Dick O'Kane attack rules and so for Seawolf decided to try a little experiment:

1st attack - Dick O'Kane Rules - 3 shots - 3 hits
2nd attack - Vector Analysis Rules - 3 shots - 2 hits, (suspect one ran deep, it passed through the target on the attack map)
3rd attack - J.P. Cromwell Rules - 3 shots - 3 hits
4th attack - Stadiameter range finding with PK on and AoB determination by aspect ratio - 4 shots 1 hit for damage.

The stadiameter is now officially off limits for the duration. Special thanks to Rockin Robbins, (the famous Sinker of Essex) for his clear and concise tutorials.

Good Hunting.

Nice to know someone still remembers me fondly. Hey, I made 947 small rocks out of one big one yesterday! Don't know what my tonnage was but it felt like a lot...:nope:

You torpedoed the Earth? That's 6,600,000,000,000,000,000,000 tons!

I try not to think about that and concentrate only on the little rock (little? this one was 6 feet in diameter!) I'm busting at the time. What do you think? Do I look Ok in stripes? I'm not happy about the color of this pick!:nope:

:03: Remember, you're about five feet away from that rock. No need to convert the distance to meters or even yards or nautical miles. Use the O'Kane method of attack and you can hit it square ... MOT. If there's a stadimeter installed on the pick, turn off PK. It's useless.
