Cannot patch SH3

I've got Windows 7 RC, have SH3 on Steam, and I can't patch the game up to 1.4b or any other patch. With 1.4b I get an error "anim.act unknown version" and a different one for all the other patches.

Might already be patched. Check in the lower right corner of the main screen and see if it says 1.4b.

Steam is so damned annoying.

Barman, what has happened is that Steam has built its own files directory which is different from the original default SH3 file tree.

Somewhere here is a thread explaining the details. Unfortunately I don't have the time at the moment to find it for you.

(Don't worry. You can adjust for it. However, my advice going forward... is that if you ever run across a hard-copy of SH3 on disk... gobble that puppy down and take ownership of it.)
