I'm using Trigger Maru Overhaul 1.7 mod
The mission is a photo op of the carrier fleet at Dalian.
As you can see there is a harbour (Dalian) on the left and 6 boats in the bay (including one I've had to mark with X). I've photo'ed all 6 boats, even done it a couple of times now... and I've been to the harbour but nothing will LOCK ON for the photo icon to go active. There are 3 vessels docked there, but none are 'photoable'.

I can't see how I am to end this mission... what else is there?
I think it's glitched...there was a couple of side-by-side contacts that passive sonar must have detected right beside my boat 300 yards to port but there was nothing there. (dolphins maybe?) I didn't see anything, I even cheated and went to external to check things out. Waited until daylight and panned around the WHOLE vicinity. Nothing else to photo...
Anyone remember this mission?

Are there any carriers among the ships there?
If the mission is to recon a specific target "e.g. carrier task force", then you can only take pictures of specific targets (in this case, aircraft carriers). If you try to lock on to another type of ship to take a picture, it will not work.

Two of those ships are the smaller type sea plane tenders, the rest are destroyers. Yes, as I mentioned, only specific ships are targetable/photoable.
I've taken 6 pics.
My problem is I think there are only 6 boats to photo... so... ????

:hmmm: IIRC, Duci wanted to script recce missions, not of ships, but of ports and port facilities. To do so, he needed to use "dummy" or "phantom" ships ... and that might be why you locked on to "dolphins" that you couldn't see. Try turning your scope until the camera icon lights up, then click on it ... even it there's no ship visible.

The phantom ships are in RSRD, not TMO just sunken hulls and they will show up as green contacts...think they lock on
as camera 1 and 2 as ID. I believe these are somewhere in the Marshalls.
Did you try to get closer to the ships to see if the icon would light up. Take several pictures of each one. I recall the mission and never had a problem with it.

Do you recall how many ships there were for you? Dummy ships sounds possible, I've found 3 boxes indicating stationary ships. But I've driven right over top of them!
There's nothing there...
I didn't try to LOCK ON to them, so I'll try that... Thanks!

I'm pretty sure the dummy targets are not in TMO, but RSRD. They will show as a green icon. Just sunken hulls that stick out of the water so you can lock on. They show in the ID book as Targets 1&2 and are used in a mission to photo ports, not ships. You don't run over them, but into them and they can damage you sub.

VOILA...
Ghost ships.. they are 1000 yards away, and yet there is nothing there. Don't know if this relates to this problem or not. I reloaded the game from here again this morning and no ghost ships, but still can't proceed with the mission.

Don't hit me, but i think thats it
Had a recon mission myself, yesterday. I lock on automatically before pressing the phototrigger, so i can't tell you for sure if it makes a difference.
cheers

This mission was bugged in stock. I think it remained bug in TMO up to TMO162. I thought it was fixed in the latest version of TMO, but it may not be.
If you're sure you're playing TMO1.7 I thought it would work, but since it's not it makes me wonder.....
Anyway, here is a patch that fixed all the recon missions. It was for stock and worked for an older version of TMO.
You might want to try it if your just running TMO...
There are no ghost ships, other than the Dutchman...........

The latest ver of TMO is 1.7..He doe's have 1.8 out in a beta. I've played it and overall it's stable, but I want to see more adjustments on it before I play a career.
I thought the recon bugs we're fixed with TMO 1.7, but if that's what you're running, obviously not, but I find it hard to believe Duc didn't include the fixes for it. I run RSRD with TMO which fixes it, but you get few recon missions unless you stay in older boats. I haven't got that mission with RSRD. Still, I've heard no complaints with any missions with TMO1.7.
Just makes me wonder about your game if it's bugged. You did say you saw a Trigger Maru Overhaul new start up screen and sure your running it?
I'll ask Duc about the mission and if the bug was fixed or not.

Thanks Armistead, I have PMed him already to see what he thinks.
I'm sure my TMO is running well by all other counts, and I've noticed a tremendous change in comparison to stock.

You ever run RSRD...I couldn't play without it.

You couldn't? Why? It's just a campaign isnt it?

I wouldn't play without it. It changes all the campaign layers to be historically correct. You run into correct convoys and they're spread out correctly with the correct ships that we're in the actual TF or convoy.
Stock just randomly spawns convoys. RSRD spawns the convoys that actually happenes, so you run into huge convoys. It also add's planes and ships, deals with plane traffic, ect. Plus you get correct map labels.
