I installed an older sim. I patched it, and manually added some track files (need no installation, only moving of folders).

Works. Nice.

Wanted to add an old mod (needs installation) that has worked before. Additonal vehicle class shows not up in menues, mod not functional.

I checked the sim folder. I see all files and folders are write-protected. I untick them (using the option that unprotects also all subfolders and files). I move the mod-exe from DVD to HD, it also is not write-protected. I run it.

Does not install.

checking the sim folder, I see that again everything is write-protected. I untick it again, and imm ediately check the status: and see that even unticking thw rite proetction box, leaves all folders and files write proptected.

I cannot make them unprotected.

It worked all nice before with the old installation. I used no files that had not been working before, and no new stuff.

Ideas? XP over here.

Found a workaround.

SAVE YOUR TIME. ;)

Not sure I've got the right picture, but maybe replace instead of overwrite? ie move the files to be changed to a backup folder and copy the modded files to where they need to go. :hmmm:

Not possible, the mod is an auto-installer.

However, the workaround was to copy the whole installation folder so that I had two, then to delete the old one, renaming the new one. And there suddenly all folders and files could be switched on and off at will again, regarding write-protection. Mod installed.

As long as it works I do not care what this may have done to installation entries in the registry.

If the mod is an auto installer... sometimes 7zip can extract that... If not then install the mod into a bogus directory... Then move the extracted files?
