Your avatar changes in response to a set number of posts. It's one of the neat things about SubSim. Don't worry, we all went through it. Wait until you get the Medic.

Of course, you could always donate to SubSim and get a custom avatar if you really don't like the system.

By the way, I think that the Planesman avatar is from Aces of the Deep.

NOW SERIOUSLY :

You should hammer the member more often ( not too often though, as it might upset some ), but there should be a smarter way to draw their attention to that ( It only cought my attention, when I went to this forum, but most members never go to "Comments to subsim" or other forums, they stay on SH3, SH4 etc...)
You get 6.5 % from Amazon, and I recon a lot of members buy a lot of games, book at Amazon, without knowing they could do some good to you and Subsim...
Not many members know about that and I recon there must be a way to put an incentive to all members, to pay attention to this. But I'm not a specialist, and would'nt allow to give you advises...
You're doing a great job, and, as for myself, have spent countless hours of happiness on this site.
May be it would cost you a bit of money initially, but may be you could try to have a track among all the members, the ones that have posted in this last year or year and a half, and E-mail them about this.
You can do that also for new members ( imperative I think )
And make a sticky about that ( Probably double-sized letters ) on every forum, and not only on one, and on top of all the others....
I don't know, You're the boss, and I can't say or do anything else beyond that.

Also, as I posted in an other thread, I would be interrested ( may be it's answered by now, but don't remember the name ), to buy other Sims like 688 or DW, or books , but I don't have a credit card.... It's a pain for me believe me

Yes you can change the Avatar and what it says beneath by making a donation to SUBSIM :yep:

From the SUBSIM FAQ:

Special rank and avatar is available to members who make a donation to the Subsim forum. If every member requested a special rank, it would overwhelm the moderators, plus it wouldn't be very special then, would it?Once you have an image you like, 60 x 60 pixels and a title, send it off to Neal. Also, let him know you'll be donating so
he can look for this as well.

i never paid too much attention to it but they will rotate daily so when you visit you get that one that you keep for the day.

after so many posts or maybe its the time you've been a member, your catagory changes and you stop getting the silly ones.

also as "I'm goin' down" said, if you make a donation to the site of a certain size then they will let you get your own personal avitar but neal is the only one who knows the exact details and requirements for that since he sets the policy.

- if you get more posts your 'avatar' changes automatically (e.g. you start as a bilge rat but from 6 posts on you are a nub)

- if you want to have a custom avatar you'll have to 'buy' it. contact neal stevens for that.

It's a pretty funny way of handling the avatars. It will prevent you however, from immediately identifying the user you're looking at, but that's no biggie.

I agree 100%. If a person can do the job, and is willing to volunteer for it, have at it! There are crybabies from both genders, as well as good hard-working folks.

Working in a co-ed military environment does create challenges, and anyone who thinks otherwise is delusional. When I left the boat, I went to a training command, and that was my first co-ed Navy experience (besides pre-boat schools.) From my observations, it's not necessarily the women I was concerned about... it was the way the men ACTED around the women (especially the extremely rare and elusive good-looking nuke.) It was just like the episode of South Park where Bebe starts growing breasts, and all the guys start acting like apes whenever she was around, then snapped right back to normal when she left.

But I'm not going to lie: I still use AI-set torpedo course and only little realism settings, so compared to most likely everyone here, I'm still a newbie. But I'm working on that, don't worry. :salute:

its safe to say neal wasnt prepared for a large number of women so the avatars for women are fewer then those prepaired for men.

as for torplexed doing his magic the custom avatar he created was already there so in the christmas spirit it was given to this lady as a merry christmas gift from neal.

there are a few "standard" avatars made for women that are used but "custom" avatars are only allowed for members who have made qualifying donations of a certain size to this site and because of that they are allowed to have a custom avatar of their own creation and choice (within certain guidelines of course)
