Hello!

Anyone from Austria on the forum? I'm gonna stay few days in Salzburg in December and now I'm looking for recommendations and tips how to spend my free time there. I know Mozart is a big name in the city, and that Eagel's Nest is nearby, but what else you can do in Salzburg area? I already checked Matthausen, but it seems to be bit too far away considering my time in the area. I'm travelling with my gf, so skiing is propably not an option, but is there any good sauna's or wellness/FKK clubs in the city area, for example? Info I found via Google was somewhat messy.

Thank you for your time! :salute:

Do a hop to Graz, that would be my first choice, before Vienna or Salzburg. Beautiful city. I had too little time back then and also was distracted (it was work and a stay on the fly), but what I saw was beautiful and quite romantic.

The old town belongs to the UNESCO world heritage. 2003 it was voted European culture capital of the year.

Thanks for a tip, Sky! It's just that I need to go to (and stay a while in) Salzburg and after doing some research it looks like there will be not much to do in that place. Exept eating Mozartkugelns, maybe...

My father has been there several times with his orchestra. He said during holiday spikes it is an extremely crowded tourist's hell, especially in summer and especially during the Salzburger Music Festival. Probably not so in winter as long as it is not christmas. On lonely days with rain and bad weather, it is more interesting, therefore, he preferred it that way, he said, becasue then you can walk on your own two feet instead of being carried away by a crowd. See the castle, and the surrounding landscape of the city, that would be his tips. It is also very close to the border, you can visit the German side as well, tip for a day's tour would be Bad Reichenhall and even more: Berchtesgaden (around 20 km away in straight line). Beautiful landscape there. I know the general area from repeated summer holidays when I still lived with my parents. I loved it.

From the airport in Salzburg, you can throw stones over the German border, so to speak. It is very close, you know. See it on Google Earth.

The whole region is a tourist ressort, you know. You should have no problem to take a car, drive around and always find a restaurant, a village, a hotel. Most of Bavaria and Austria is very beautiful landscape: mountains, meadows, forests, idyllic villages. A place i would not complain to live in.

You want to go to Austria in order to go to a sauna? Typical Finn. :) No but seriously, I suggest renting a car and maybe sightseeing on your own. Lots of mountains etc. to gaze at over there.

Edit. Mind you, what we understand as sauna isn't necessarily the same thing over there. *wink wink, nudge nudge*
