so i was playin the convoy training mission to sharpen up my skills a bit (trust me those missions help a lot). well i had just made my first swipe of a salvo of 4 eels into the convoy and had advance into the middle of it at all ahead slow, normal maneuvers you know? i was using gods eye view at the time and decided to take a peak above. I counted 2 warships (a destroyer and a corvette). They were making circle around the area i had fired from as usual but somethin peculiar happened next.
I heard deck gun fire and machine gun fire and could see the impacts on the surface so i zoomed over to the warships and the corvette was charging at full speed and all guns blazing at the destroyer. At first I was like wtf m8? The destroyer was actually making evasive maneuvers but the corvette wouldnt let up lol. I started by hitting the bridge and knocked out its guns and smoke stacks. It just kept hammering the friendly destroyer. I completely forgot about the convoy and was too entertained by the fight. Eventually the corvette sunk the destroyer and then i surfaced like the Flying Dutchman and sent the corvette and her crew down to Davy Jones locker:arrgh!:
Was the destroyer depth charging the area? Could it be that the corvette got caught in the blast and took it as a hostile act?
By jove, that destroyer just spilt my tea with that DC!!
ACTION STATIONS!!!! Show those boys they should never spill an englishman's cup of tea.
Boom!! Crack!! Yakayaka!!
She's going down sir!!!
Good job lads, now fetch me some more earl grey old chap.

no this destroyer did not right back at all. the only thing it did was evasive maneuvers.

aha so i'm not the only person this has happened to? Dont know y but it happened
I remember it was explained in a recent thread. Something to do with one of them getting accidentaly hit by the other, with ammo that has your name on it. Some stock SH3 bug that makes the receiver hold a grudge towards the other. Nothing that can be done about it without a patch. (for which there isn't one)
Yeah, I just loaded the mission and it happened to me but the destroyer fought back. Crap gunnery though, must have been Bernard pulling the trigger.
(Yay, my first subsim 'Bernard' reference......)

I had this same thing before installing GWX. I was also playing the Convoy Attack (I was undetected) and the corvette just got mad to the destroyer and opened fire. The destroyer got angry and shoot back. The corvette sank, and I finished the destroyer and sunk the convoy.
I think this was a 1.00 version bug (I patched SH3 when I downloaded GWX).

Nope, I'm running GWX3. No matter, it's only a training mission, maybe the escorts are doing a bit of training for themselves...

A bug as old as the game itself.
I can remember before any of the major mods came out that i've watched the 2 fighting it out. Afterwards i would surface & deckgun the survivor. The best thing about that was that it seemed the destroyer quickly had enough of another engagement after just a few rounds & seemed to turn tail & run. Long time ago but still one of the funniest memories :rotfl:
Mind you, that was in stock. I would not attack a destroyer in that way again since i'm running with GWX. But ships on the same side engaging each other can still happen. Even with any of the major mods installed.

It's common knowledge about getting behind an enemy and have the other fire at yiu through the other....it's the not firing/fighting back bit that is puzzling me :hmmm:
