Question for the RFB Gato drivers

What's the deepest you've gone with your boat?

I was on patrol and decided to try a dive down to 400 feet. Once I hit about 370 the hull damage indicator started climbing. So of course I hit the emergency blow and flank speed to surface. Burst back onto the surface at 70% hull damage. Oh and I'm running RFB 1.4, I haven't updated to 1.5 yet as I'm rarely in SH4 anymore, too busy with console gaming at the moment.

I find it hard to believe the settings are that low for RFB, but I play TMO mostly. I can push a Gato down to 600ft without damage, but even a few percentage points can ruin that. Had 6% damage once and went to a little over 400 ft and boom...dead.

Did you have any damage at all? Test it again. It's smart to test all depths slowly so you know what limits you can do.

I was at about 13% damage on the last patrol. Tried to sneak into Rabul, DD caught me napping on TC. Slipped out of the area fairly easily though. Hull damage at the start of this patrol was at 0%

I rarely use RFB, prefer TMO.However, in RFB deepest I took my Gato was 350 feet, was more than enough to get away from the pushover DD's that were looking for me.I only go as deep as I have to or have been, that way don't reach crush depth, if I die, I start a new career, no loading from last save point.

In TMO you can take a Gato to around 590 feet if no hull damage.See the 300 feet on your depth gauge was its historical test depth.This means it was guaranteed that the sub could operate safely at and above this depth, below it was unknown.Gato's were strong boats though and many skippers like Fluckey took their subs to 350 feet and beyond.

No one alive knows a subs actual crush depth but from what I've read, bet a Gato would reach and operate at 400 feet safely.

I don't go past 330 -340 and don't seem to take damage at those depths.

A healthy Gato should be able to reach 500. Crush depth for Balao's built from HTS was considered 900.
