Dear all,

Another noobie question that I haven't been able to find an answer to:

I would like to constrain myself to a realistic carrier in SH3...that means dead is dead! I am using SH3 commander and GWX 3 but I can't find a "dead is dead" option although searching these forums makes it seem like the option is in one of these mods....somewhere.

Thanks for the help!

I believe D.I.D. is more of a personal choice, not to load the last time you where in port alive but to just leave the captain dead and create another career :)

DiD is self-imposed (you have to use WILLPOWER :arrgh!:)

Dead Is Dead means just that.

WHEN YOU DIE YOU ARE DEAD! (no reloading because you forgot to open tube doors ect)

I would like to constrain myself

That's the secret to it. ;)

I suspected that it was something like that, and this is what I love about subsim. Simulation nerds with the commitment to realism and the willpower to forfeit saves, to refuse to use the event camera and prefer to just hear the torpedo explosions because they are running deep for a clean escape.:salute:
BUT...axxchor actually raises a good point: could this be somehow "modded in". The mod manages save games so as to only allow loading a save when the captain is certifiably alive. Like disabling all saves for a career the moment the captain dies.
You could get fancy and make it emit a DiD certificate like the ones people make for their captains, but something with some official weight for tonnage bragging rights.
I'm the furthest thing from a modder, and i wouldn't in a million years know what is needed for something like that. So for you modders out there, are these completely unreal requests? A DiD mod?

Haha. I had a sneaking suspicion that this was a self-imposed "difficulty setting".

*sigh* If I must use willpower...then I must.

Punish yourself.

If your guy gets killed, NO SH3 for you for one MONTH! :D

I never reload torpdoes while in combat, as they weigh around a ton and the steep diving angles involved in dodging depth charges make that quite dangerous. I also never reload externals unless in a dead calm and while at a dead stop.
I do, however, reload dead careers if, and only if, I died because a reload made me hit the bottom, or TC made my u-boat suddenly appear a mile up a mountainside.

Yeah one month no SH3 (good idea), that's D.I.D. and no sex either! :haha:

No sex is a war-time hazard in playing this game.

Mrs: Are you finished with that damn game, already?

Me: Just...five more mins...

Mrs: Uh huh...

Me: No really...I just have to look after my men...

Mrs: Riiiight...

Me: I really do...that last depth charge was a nasty son of a bitch, and poor Gunter in the engine room was already badly injured after that hurricane's strafing run...I just don't know who is going to replace him for the rest of the patrol. Verdammt..why didn't I send Hans on that medic training course back in port...

Mrs: Do you a brig on that thing?

Me: Why, no. Not really...but there is a spare bunk in the forward compartment that I could tie someone too, if needs be...why?

Mrs: You're sleeping in it.

:yep:

Mrs.: Not really......
