Welcome to the leadership of the Democratic party, and the inner circle of the Obama Administration. Such tolerance is indeed compelling.

Well, when half your cabinet are suspect of doing something illegal and or have done something illegal acting like this does not suprise me at all. I suspect Barry O will be having some words with this individual. I certainly would if I were Barry O. Then again, I'm not Barry O and really, this guy has lost any credibility if he had any.

Obama can no sooner reject this man than he can his own mother. Paraphrase of what he said about Rev. Jeremia Wright. Cut from the same cloth.

And, 'the police acted stupidly'.

"We could lose [the health care debate] because I don't think [Obama] has been tough enough...He should get mad, stop ****ing around...He just needs to drag [Americans] to it. Like I just said, they're stupid. Just drag them to this."

I for one am getting a bit upset with the arrogance Mookie displays because he thinks he has some special relationship with Neal Stevens.

No one asks to be insulted for asking a question Mookie answers by trolling the thread, with derogatory comments. Mookie seems to think anyone who doesn't agree with his POV and posts a reality beyond his beliefs is some kind of joker who must be put in his place. Now that is ridiculous.

You have a predilection for posting thread after thread on the same sort of topic. I pointed that out. You're free to take that however you will. You've chosen to take it offensively. The only reason you would do so is that your self image is that of someone who doesn't post thread after thread on the same topic. When presented with something that is at odds with our worldview, our brains naturally react with either fear or anger. So the question becomes, is the issue with my observation on the evidence presented (to wit, your post history) or with your self image. Who's to say? :ahoy:

I don't believe in silencing a voice, regardless of the motive or content. How could I defend myself against the slurs if I did that? It would also telegraph a fear of thought which does not exist.

It doesn't mean I cannot complain about the behavior when I find it offensive, as I do Mookies comment(s) in this case.

Look, we ALL get your point. You don't like Obama. Some of us agree, some of us disagree. But no one needs you to start thread after thread justifying that view. We get it.

Political threads are fine. Take a TOPIC that's interesting, post a point of view and invite discussion. That's how it should be done.

But what you do is take a link from the Drudge Report, cut/paste it into a thread, and say, "See? Democrats are wrong!" You're not inviting discussion. You're not even expressing a clear though-out opinion with reasonings to support your perspective. All we see are a constant deluge of threads that really don't say anything.

Because I have nothing better to do, I shall bring you my commentary on this ridiculous thread.

It all began quietly, when CastleBravo starts yet another political thread. Herr mookiemookie comes in with the following post
776 posts of nothing but harping on petty politics. That's an achievement.
While this is not completely accurate and could be considered baiting, it allso has to be said that quite a lot of herr CastleBravos posts are of a political nature.
After this, herr FIREWALL enters the fray.
Who gave you the Position to decide what can be posted and what can't. With a post that is completely nonsensical, because herr mookiemookie only commented, inaccurately, on what herr CastleBravo had previously posted, not on wether it should be allowed or not.
After that first exchange things degenerate into light hearted willy waving between herr FIREWALL and herr mookiemookie

Things continue with some projection by herr CastleBravo
I for one am getting a bit upset with the arrogance Mookie displays because he thinks he has some special relationship with Neal Stevens.

No one asks to be insulted for asking a question Mookie answers by trolling the thread, with derogatory comments. Mookie seems to think anyone who doesn't agree with his POV and posts a reality beyond his beliefs is some kind of joker who must be put in his place. Now that is ridiculous.
I say projection because I have never noticed herr mookiemookie claim any special relationship, nor have I noticed him being treated as a special case by the administration. My natural urge here is to tell herr CastleBraco to cry mich ein river and to grow thicker skin when it comes to opposing viewpoints. Allso there is a hint of pot kettle black here.

Then there is more light hearted dick waving.

In short, all parties involved have pulled a dick move here or there in this thread. My completely worthless take on this cluster****.

My apologies, I see that was CB who brought that up in post #13.

Did you also see how Mookie disparaged me on your board? Post #5. Which since you have stood up for him in previous threads led me to bring up your name. In public, not in the back-door clandesent methods usually employed by others.

I continue to wait for an apology.........but won't stop posting.

As you can see, CBs thread creations are not overwhelmingly political.

However, in turn I would now like to see evidence of this so-called 'special relationship' between Mookiemookie and Neal Stevens.
I have been a member of Subsim for, eight years now, thereabouts, and I have never known Neal to be anything but impartial and very tolerant. In fact, there have been times when many have thought him too tolerant.
This said, this constant posting of political threads, not just by CB, there are many others, really needs to be curbed, I know it creates activity, but it also creates tensions and fractions between those who are unable to seperate arguments from personal feelings, of which there are many, myself included sometimes. The overwhelming number of posts in the aforementioned threads indicates their popularity, and indeed CB posts frequently in them, as do other members who have been mentioned, from both sides of the political spectrum. Whether or not this constitutes spamming I am unsure, however sometimes it certainly does feel like it to an outsider.
Creating a seperate politics forum would be a moderating nightmare, and bound to dissolve into flaming and petty name calling unless strictly moderated, and therefore because of the moderation, interest in the forum would dry up quickly. It's not the first time on Subsim we've had a glut of threads, heh, it doesn't seem all that long ago that there was a large amount of pro/neutral/anti-Islam postings and arguments which resulted in about two or three members leaving and a lot of bad feelings.

People get very emotional about politics, particularly in such an emotive and passionate country such as the US (no offense intended) and it's only natural that people will feel that they are being attacked by 'the other side' be that side Democratic or Republican, but, let me put to you this.

How many threads are there, on the front page about Gordon Brown? Or Angela Merkel? Or Vladimir Putin? We have British, Germany and Russian members here, and British politics are rather flammable at times (particularly at the moment over the whole Lockerbie bomber situation), so why are there not a group of British members venting their feelings over the complete ineptitude of the 'One-eyed Scottish idiot'?
I do not have the answer to that, and I don't expect you to either, but it is something to consider the next time you see something on Fox News or in your inbox which criticises the Democratics or the Republicans and you copy and paste across to a new thread in the General Topics forum.

In the meantime, let's just all take one step back, dust ourselves down, watch something funny on youtube and then evaluate, in the grand scheme of things of life, death, births, marriages and other occurances, just how important is Obamas place of birth? Enough to get your blood pressure up and put your health at risk over?

Your decision

*Takes level-headed cap off and puts it back in its box.*

So many emotions Oberon. First, I'd like to thank you. Not only for your efforts, but your exoneration of my contribution for those who think politics are my only topic to the board. I only wish Neal could recognize it. And recognize others who with good intention attempt to pass on well documented information.

I would also like to thank you for pointing out the posting of leftists whose views are often given a pass as being non-provocative.

I hope SS will progress with your efforts!

For those who don't agree with me..........am I not allowed an opinion?

Perhaps its more of a situation where they treat all politicians with equal contempt rather than the two party approach where some people identify with one side and treat anything by the other with contempt.

In the spirit of detente, I'll add the following:

You know, I'm not sure if you remember, but you and I had good discussion in PM about two years ago. I explained to you then that it is not your opinions that get you in trouble. It's your behavior. You come across as very condescening when dealing with anyone you don't agree with. Given the past, you seem to have a real problem with Neal. Take the registered trademark you use for SubSim. That's meant as a barb; we both know it. It's the little things like that which set people off. If you could step away from them, perhaps you could progress a little too. I mean that sincerely.

It is much like my experience when I first became a moderator. I used to throw in these little barbs when moderating the threads. I learned very quickly that you just can't do that, as you'll have more fights than you have ever wanted. It was foolish of me, and so I rapidly came to the understanding that you have to treat people with respect if you want to get anywhere.

I can't speak for the others, but on my end, your opinions are of no personal consequence. They are not my issue.

Guys,

some matches at the playing tables are intended provocations from the very beginning. In such cases the best move is to simply fold, leaving the player putting the big blind all to himself, and not even sitting down.

Since a common worldwide definition of the word racism applies to people who have prejudices based on nationality then I think someone like yourself who has a silly bigotry thing about americans really should remain silent on making accusations of racism towards others.

I wonder if this comment will elicit one of the usual racist comments about the Irish from herring just to reinforce the point ?

Racism refers to ethnicity and races, not to nationalities, politics or politic/economic/religious ideologies that do not base on arguments hostile to certain ethnicities and/or races for the sake of making unvalid claims about them.

Merriam-Webster:

Main Entry: racˇism
Pronunciation: \ˈrā-ˌsi-zəm also -ˌshi-\
Function: noun
Date: 1933
1 : a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race
2 : racial prejudice or discrimination
— racˇist \-sist also -shist\ noun or adjective

Farlex Free dictionary:

racˇism (rhttp://img.tfd.com/hm/GIF/amacr.gifhttp://img.tfd.com/hm/GIF/prime.gifshttp://img.tfd.com/hm/GIF/ibreve.gifzhttp://img.tfd.com/hm/GIF/lprime.gifhttp://img.tfd.com/hm/GIF/schwa.gifm)
n. 1. The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.
2. Discrimination or prejudice based on race.

Prejudices against other nationalities and unfounded claims of claimed superiority of one's own nation is called nationalism.

Loving one's own national context is called patriotism.

No it's the Irish who are racist towards people like the Polish immigrant workers. I thought I made this clear the first time around.

Wow I thought you said you would no longer respond to anything I wrote skybird?
Racism refers to ethnicity and races, not to nationalities
Unlucky Skybird, you got it wrong .
A legal definition about racism
this means any group of people who are defined by reference to their race, colour, nationality (including citizenship) or ethnic or national origin.
The definition from the UN convention
shall mean any distinction, exclusion, restriction or preference based on race, colour, descent, or national or ethnic origin
oh looky.... nationality, national origin and errrrrr.....national origin:up:

Perhaps you should have kept to your word and not responded eh:yep:

No it's the Irish who are racist towards people like the Polish immigrant workers.

Tribesman - why now bait Skybird like that. Not cool dude.

Skybird, take the high road and ignore it mate.

Someone should just make a "I'm going to insult whomever because they tend to disagree with me" post. Thats just about what this has turned into.

Accusations of racism, baiting on past statements like some "response" is a major accomplishment, etc.

I agree with some people on issues, others I disagree with. But ya know what, it doesn't really matter who agrees or disagrees with me, or vice versa. So I suggest everyone just kind of grow up and stop the tit for tat, back and forth nonsense.

See a post that you can't add to constructively? Don't respond. See one you can discuss like an ADULT? Hop in and use fact to add to the discussion.
