This is an easy one.
SUBSIM = $$$$

Anyone wants to use the word "SUBSIM" has to pay him.
Anyone wants to use the word "Carotio" you don't get squat.

Mr. Neal Stevens
It has come to my attention that "Subsim" is now a registered trademark. I would like to bring it to your attention formally, that I have been using the subsim name as a part of my signature for some time now at the subsim.com forums.
Please consider this a written request to continue using the trademarked Subsim name as part of my forum signature, so that any infringement issues might be avoided in the future.
Congratulations on your trademarking, and thank you for your consideration in this matter.
Sincerely,
John Sealey

Yeah, the main thing, it protects my intellectual property, i.e., the subsim website and community concept. So if some yahoo decides to start up a copycat website, and call it Ocean Subsim, or something similar to Submarine Simulation / SubSim, he will be infringing on my trademark and be liable to pay me damages. Most people don't do that sort of thing in the first place, because they respect each other.
Congrats Neal.

Haha, thanks :haha:

No problem, I discussed it with Adrian some time back, it's for educational purposes.

I suspected it was related that way to $$$, but again the question remains a bit...
Carotio is actually two words written as one. Ask an Italian what it means:
caro tio :03: I don't wanna trademark the name. I'm too much a bad wolf to protect a notoriously bad rumoured name.... :haha:

What I really meant by what it is good for, is that since you speak of respect among each other, do you then have previous incidents where the subsim name was in any real danger of being picked by someone else?
Still just curious... :06:

Congratulations! Is this the new official Subsim (®!) logo :hmmm:? I guess the "two years of hard work" mean you designing that picture above :O:
As for the "cake and ice cream" part: Sounds more like a birthday party for kids (no offence) I myself are going to celebrate it with a cold one :DL

Neal,
On a slightly more judicial note, would YOU like the subsim members who have websites that link or refer to Subsim, to request permission to use the name on their site?
I'm thinking maybe an open topic whereby requests can be made, and you can gave a yah or nay in the forums, instead of adding to the millions of PM you receive every day.

I think this is WAY cool.
Subsim has become something akin to an institution on the net. It's my favorite place (due in no small part to Neal and the community) and I'm happy to see it become officialy recognized and protected.
Congrats!

Does not the issuance of a trademark also place the board under federal law?
Congratulations!

Congratulations!What?
The law covers everything regardless. The issuance of a trademark makes no difference. A private board is a private board, regardless of whether or not its trademarked.
