Just thought ot ask a simple question, every one here including myself is going nuts asking questions and demanding this that and the other thing.

So can we have developer update

I'm sure we'll get one when they are ready, and not a moment sooner. Meanwhile, Elanaiba posts here on a regular basis, so when he has something to offer I'm sure he'll tell us.

We're taking notes of your questions and requests. There are some features that are feasible while others are almost impossible to implement (or would require a huge effort).

Also, don't forget that there is a new First Person Camera and a live crew that require a great effort and have many implications in all areas of the game (that you'll see when playing). Yet, we're trying to make the game as moddable as possible so you can customize it as you like it and enjoy it even more :know:.

The game is not completed, not even the design. Your requests are added to the list (which is sorted by relevancy and the effort to implement).

So we hope we are all going to spend the days and the nights playing Silent Hunter 5. :arrgh!:

Strange, I've never had the feeling that a game dev would actually read what I'd like to play and make efforts to give me what I want. This is new to me. SH5 almost feels like a community effort (it's not, ofc, but it feels like it). I've got a warm fuzzy feeling right now .

Now, can someone pleeaaaaase bury me in a glacier and resuscitate me when the game is ready?! Please?! :o I can't wait!! :wah:

Ever since meeting Elanaiba last year in Houston, I've had the feeling that all the Devs working on SH5 want to give us the best sim possible, as well as fulfilling the maximum amount of our requests as possible. If it doesn't turn out quite that way, it won't be because they didn't try, or didn't care.

They've always maintained a presence on these boards, answering questions and giving as much information as they could without compromising their work.

Thats good to know. I was seriously wondering if modability would be going the other direction.

I'd like to ask a more specific question that would probably be of great interest to anyone considering modding SH5 (Not that i am, im just curious), and i really dont expect an answer, but i thought id ask anyway.

Will the file structure remain the same or similar to SH3/SH4? Or will the entire directory and file structure be new and the file dependencies, interactions, and variables need to be relearned?

Guys, please redo the water shaders to bring back the 'atlantic' feel. In my opinion, the water in SH3 was far more realistic, than in SH4.

Thank you again for your efforts. I'm buying SH5 as soon as it hit the shelves of our stores.

Hell - why not!

Though I just read that all 5 of the S-1 lend lease boats were used as Anti Submarine training vessles by the RN :(
My dreams of historically using one to hunt Axis ships in the ATO have been ruined.

There's always Gato's, though the role they played in the atlantic was very minor.

I don't intend to... Just because it seems to be using the same file structure doesn't mean the whole code base is similar. It could take me many more months and I'm not up for that anymore. I'll just be 'playing' the game...

since sh5 is built on the sh4 file structure, with luck s3d will work flawlessly with sh5 and at best need only a minor tweak to add a new feature or two

You know it may not be as bad as you guys may think. Keep in mind that at its core, SH4 is still very much a uboat game since its derived from Sh3. Fleet boats work entirely different from uboats on many levels so with sh4, what you had was a uboat game, that was shoehorned to fit into a fleet boat paradigm. Of course its not going to work out all that great.

With the uboat mission addon, you had uboats being shoehorned back into the mix, which had already been cobbled around a paradigm it wasn't originally designed for. Again, of course its not going to work out all that great.

If i was a betting man, id wager that the SH4 engine being used, is a patched/fixed version of Sh4 1.4 with the changes for fleetboats peeled back and culled to remove that layer of abstraction that didn't work so well. And really, aside from bug fixes added in 1.5, theres only four or so issues off the top of my head that would have to be resolved to have a rock solid platform. The dev's have had plenty of time since the uboat mission addon to fix those issues, and i would think they'd have to done that first before trying to add anything else.

Besides that, uboats with improved eyecandy with full interactive and rendered interior? The majority here will eat that up and ask for more regardless of release state :DL

agreed but isnt it much more likely they would start off with the v1.5 game with the fixes built in?

in my mind they are going to replace everything fleetboat with the sh3 uboat stuff and then jazz it up for using the newer game engine and grafics.

for a long time we have been thinking "why doesnt ubi use sh4 game with sh3 content added" so maybe thats what we will finally get now.

it stands to reason the quick developement time for this game is due to having most everything they need already built (sh3 files) or can be easily cloned and the main work to be done is to debug everything for the new game engine
